Just watched the UNI game again

It is very obvious that our team is much better in a transition quick score offense. Our half court offense against UNI was terrible. The ball movement was horrible. If we our going to be successful this season we definitely need to dictate the tempo and not get "stuck" in a grind it out half court game.

Then we better learn how to rebound. A fast break can't start without a defensive rebound and a good outlet pass. We gave up 13 offensive rebounds to UNI INSPITE of the fact that they sent three guys back on defense to slow down our break.

That, combined with only shooting one freethrow in the first 37 minutes is a gaurenteed recipe for a loss against almost any team.

Remember we had 0, as in ZERO! fast break points. Your analysis is obvious

How in the hell could you watch that again

Re: Just watched the UNI game again

UNI outcoached McD by not sending guys to the offensive boards (even though they killed us there), and instead he had 2 to 3 guys immediately start retreating into the back court as soon as a shot went up. Because of this, our guys couldn't grab a rebound and make a quick outlet to a guard who would breakdown one of UNI's players in the open floor and get to the hoop. They were already standing back there to cut our guys off.

    Hey Cydkar,
Why are you still posting on MBB threads? You said you would be "done" with this team if they lost to UNI, and that losing that game is "unacceptable".

Re: Just watched the UNI game again

    Rebound, rebound, rebound!!!!!!

The Clones are not going to win by getting outrebounded the way they have the last two games. It is completely unacceptable for UNI and NW to kill ISU on the boards. The half court offense is not very good and the team has made its living on the secondary break, but you can't wear other teams down by running if you can't get the rebound to start the break.

GMac had better figure out how to change things around or he is heading for another disappointing season and a maybe a new job.

Re: Just watched the UNI game again

Some people said UNI dropped many people back to prevent our fast break .... if that is true and we still got out rebounded like that... ugh

    Flawed team

Strong frontcourt, weak backcourt. Garrett is good, but the rest (IMO) can shoot and little else - poor defense, no penetration, lousy passing. We desparately need a Mike Nurse-type player to step up.

The problem is, if you cut off the head (guards) the body (forwards) dies.

Against any team with good guards, it will be a real struggle. Against teams with equal or lesser guards, we will run up scores. Plan on a roller-coaster season and a lot of message board angst!
