    If we beat Cal....

...we're back on track to make a NCAA tournament run. I do believe our chances of making it are razor thin, and a loss to UNI could keep us out. If we can manage to pick off Cal or Duke, we could get to 12 non-conference wins instead of 11. I really think we win 8 or 9 games in the Big XII. Ten being the absolute most. That would put us around 20-22 wins on the year. With 20 or 21 wins, we would probably have to win 2 Big XII tourney games.

Bottom line is, we need more players to play like Colvin and Boozer. Fearless, aggressive and confident.

Im not sold losing to UNI is going to hurt us unless they absolutely tank their season which I dont see happening at all. They are damn solid.

At home it does. That game is on the road it does not hurt near as much. Potential tourney at-large teams should not be losing to UNI at home...

I think that both the UNI and Northwestern losses will be considered "quality losses" unless we fail to gather up some quality wins, and then they will be considered as an example that we can't beat quality opponents. Cal would be a good start.

One game does not make/break a season. Beating Cal does not meant we're fully back on track. Losing 2 games does not mean hope is lost.

We have to WIN this game @ Cal. Must win.

Not to just get us back on track alone, but beating a good Pac 10 opponet never hurts.

You tell me how we get to the NCAA tournament then. Do we win 10-12 Big XII games?

    This.

Spare me the crap about UNI's "experience" bla bla bla. We should NEVER, ever lose to UNI at home. Ever.

The 2005 team lost to Iona and Fresno State at home and still made the tournament. Losing to UNI, a possible top 25 team and likely champ of the MVC will not keep ISU out of the Dance.

With our schedule 20 or 21 wins gets us in. Period.

    Re: If we beat Cal....

You're right, losing to a team that returned their 10 of their top 11 players from an NCAA tournament team, who is projected to get back to the tournament, who is picked to win their conference...yep that will definitely prevent us from getting into the NCAA tournament.

guess the season is officially over. Might as well not even watch another game.

Could someone call the Hawkeyes and let them know that we are forfeiting the game, From what I am reading on this messageboard, there is no reason for Iowa State to play another game.

    Some people just frustrate me.

If we beat Cal?! We are going to have big W tomorrow. We are NOT going to Cali with that kind of attitude.

If UNI wins the Valley outright they may get a decent seed in the tournament themselves. Why does losing to a tournament team suddenly keep us out of the tournament? The same could be said for Northwestern. If we are a bubble team and ESPN throws our resume up on the screen I don't think that you'll see either of these losses listed under the bad losses column.

We just need to start picking up some quality wins to get ourselves in.

This is true. We're going to need to win in the Big 12 and get one, if not two "marquee" wins along the way.
