This is not a Garrett problem. Why is he taking more shots now? Because no one else is moving in the offense, therefore there isn't anywhere to go with the basketball.

    Someone has to shoot it.

Good points all the way around.

Garrett needs to shoot less and DG shouldn't pass the ball to Dendy in the first place. He should have just held on to the thing and been the one controlling the clock. Garrett is partially at fault for that ****** shot Dendy took.

15 shots is too much for a guy not known for his shooting touch. It may not be a Garrett problem, but Garrett taking 15 shots a game is not a good team thing.

UNI pretty much dared him to beat them, let him shoot from long range. Just didn't let him get close to the hoop and it worked. They dogged everyone else.

Point well taken about the pass. That's what Mac said in post game interviews too. Dendy should have known better though.

But hey, it's like I wrote. He will learn. It's a young season.

Re: A lot of hoops still to be played...

And the game was lost LONG before Dendy took that poor shot. Frankly, it's upsetting that many can't see that. He was aggressive and tried to make a play, more than I can say about a lot of guys that night. The game was lost in part in the first half when we jumped out to a 17-10 lead, UNI continued to not score after that but we had a unforced turnovers, poor shots and missed easy ones. Instead of being around 25-10 early, it stayed a 7 point game and then UNI made some shots. It happened again earlier in the 2nd half - same exact scenario.

Good point 22. It was eerily similar to the Northwesttern game really.

Dendy was actually in good position...he was just too tentative with the ball. If he had taken a dribble or two forward he could have got a much better look or - the defense converges and he hits someone else that was hopefully running the lane.

I think even if you are going to refrain from knocking the coaching staff as a whole Mack needs to make some major adjustments to controlling what is going on out there on the floor.

I agree 100%. But most of this, IMO, falls on the other guys for being sticks in the mud. UNI played us much like OU did last season when DG "had a great game". It's really a smart way to defend us. We just have to find ways to fight against it and not bend over and take it.

This team MUST start to dictate to other teams or we're gonna be somebody's ***** all season long. Again.

And I firmly believe they can do it. That's actually what upsets me the most. These things can be done...it's just not happening...and we're reverting to old, bad habits that routinely have not had any success.

As long as we go at least 9-7 in conference and win at least one Big12 tourney game, we'll be dancing, the preconference isn't as important as everyone thinks.

The problem with Garrett right now isn't that he is shooting so much, it's the shots he is taking. Garrett needs to be thinking two thinks, get a lay-up, or get an assist.

Also I think Garrett shooting mid range jumpers and driving in for shots= good
    3-pointers= bad

Agree fully folks...no question. A number (but not all) of his outside shots came with the shot clock getting a bit closer to expiring. And while it wasn't at 5...it was closer to 10 and DG looks around - seeing everyone content with just hanging out with someone wearing purple. And DG is wide open...not a ton of choices to make there.

DG shooting a mid range jumper is almost money in the bank and we must find ways to get him more shots there and less from outside. But our offense needs to start moving - even when we're in the half court - because we're awful there.
