KC Star: KU Head Coach Candidates

Kansas’ next coaching hire could define its football legacy - KansasCity.com

Most who's been mentioned beofre: Sumlin, Fedora, A&M OC Nolan Cromwell (played QB for the Jayhawks in the early '80s), Skip Holtz

They do list Randy Edsall & Jim Harbaugh as long shots. As has been stated before, KU AD hired Edsall to be football coach at UConn when he was the AD there. Harbaugh's wife is orginally from the Kansas City area. But both are being looked for the Notre Dame job.

They should go for Charlie Weiss...one fat man after another.

Re: KC Star: KU Head Coach Candidates

Mangino won 3 bowl games in 8 years, KU won 3 bowl games in the 100 seasons before he got there. Mangino was on the verge of playing in the National Championship 2 years ago and ended up in the Orange Bowl.

The bar is set so high at an institution that can not sustain it - there will be nothing but failure going forward.

Absolutely correct! Mangino is gone because Perkins just wanted him out. It was not because of his alleged abusiveness towards some of his players. This is just the excuse that is being used. The accusations that have come out are for things that happened in past seasons and if those events alone are worthy of firing Mangino then why wasn't he fired then? Lew just couldn't justify it until this year when their record was remotely average.

Agreed. And as for why he was fired, it may not have been for his record, but Perkins did not like him, and many of the fans didn't either.

I would bet my life that if they were 10-2 right now, that the fat man wouldn't have been let go.

It's still Mangino's fault he was completely unlikeable and made enemies. I don't feel sorry for him.

I can't believe Turner would go to KU, but not consider ISU last year. KU might be a little better then ISU, but they are very close.

Gill's daughter is on the dance team at KU and KU pays twice as much...

Totally agree. Ask ISU, you don't fire a coach that did things that the school had never done (at least in recent history), bring in the "hot" coach and improve things. And I was all for the Mac firing. KU won the freaking Orange Bowl. They don't have the support, resources and facilities to stay among the Big 12 elite (if they ever were). I don't care who they hire, they are going to go downhill.

They've just spent $30M on renovations and an a practice facility. Yes, they are nowhere near the elite of the conference, but they will be able to attract much better candidates than they did when they hired Mangino.

A hot coach can certainly improve things, but it has to be the right fit. Clearly, Cheezey wasn't the right fit.
