Tournament play got started off today with eight matches around the country. Here's how they came out:

Florida International def. Miami (Fla.) 3-2 (25-16, 20-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-11)
----The Panthers advance to take on #16-seed Florida tomorrow night.
#16 Florida def. College of Charleston 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18)
----The Gators face FIU tomorrow night after an easy win.

#5 Illinois def. IPFW 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-12)
----Illinois advances to face AVCA #23 Dayton tomorrow night
Dayton def. Milwaukee 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-9)
----Tough first round match for the Flyers, who still advance to face Illinois.

Colorado State def. Middle Tennessee 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-6)
----CSU barely gets the hometown win and advances to face the Huskies tomorrow night.
#6 Washington def. Northern Colorado 3-1 (25-27, 25-15, 25-22, 25-21)
----The Bears couldn't hold on after stealing the first set from perennial power Washington.

TCU def. Rice 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 27-25)
----The Horned Frogs (I just wanted to say that) get the sweep in a match that was closer than it appears.
#2 Texas def. Texas State (25-16, 25-14, 25-14)
----The Longhorns roll to victory against the overwhelmed Bobcats, and plays again tomorrow.

No real upsets, but several close matches. Surprised but not sad to see Washington drop a set to Northern Colorado. They may have a tougher time ahead than we thought. Anyway, just a preview day before a big day tomorrow when almost everyone else that hasn't played yet makes their debut.
