    Tom Morello

Sorry if I missed this from earlier in the week, but did anybody catch Tom Morello on HBO last Sunday? He came out and played The Gost of Tom Joad with Bruce Springsteen. I'm not a guitar player, but have always liked Rage, Audioslave, and Morello. His performance in that song was crazy!

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JChuUgio_8g"]YouTube - Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello - Ghost of Tom Joad complete song 11/29/2009[/ame]

Check out his final solo around 6:45.....

I think HBO is going to air it again tonight.

They had a lot of Metallica, with guests, and some crazy guitar from Jeff Beck, also U2 with Mick Jagger, and Fergie........

Absolutely love RATM, and especially Morello. Audioslave got a bit too watered down for me. Funny, I just referenced RATM in a thread a few minutes ago.

"The Ghost of Tom Joad" was pretty much the only song worth a damn from Renegades.

I miss Audioslave, mostly because I love Chris Cornell as a singer but am not nearly as into his solo work.

I watched this a few days ago, watched the whole show and didn't move, it was awesome! Feel a little bad for Stevie Wonder when he forgot the words to the Michael Jackson song. You could tell he was crushed.

As a fellow guitarist, I love Tom Morello's style and chops. His solos are quite unique, and often toe the line between music and noise.

I watched it too...unbelieveable if you are a rock and roll fan. I really enjoyed the Simon and Garfunkel songs. Those two guys still sound great together. Liked Crosby Stills and Nash where they sang with Jackson Browne. Liked the Metallica with Ozzy. U2 with Fergie and Mick was good. U2 with Springsteen was better. I'm a big Springsteen fan, so I loved seeing Bruce sing with John Fogarty...especially the Orbison classic. And then top it all off with Bruce and the band playing with Billy Joel?? Just freaking awesome to watch. I even liked the Stevie Wonder song with Sting. Didn't care all that much for Aretha, although I wished that she would do another song with Annie Lennox.

Springsteen brought Morello in for a concert last year to play Joad. It's actually on the Magic concert CD. The guy is flat out one of the best guitar players out there.

I absolutely love RATM and Morello is probably my favorite guitarist (close with Jack White), but I agree that some of Morello's riffs are so out there that it may not be classified as music.

Agreed. Too bad RATM is no more...and Audioslave ruined all things RATM.

I thought RATM got back together? And how exactly did Audioslave ruin them?

I think Audioslave was too watered down..too mellow for the RATM guys - De La Rocha. RATM had such a unique sound, and I thought Audioslave was pretty vanilla.

De La Rocha quit RATM, that's why they pursued Cornell. When he wanted to come back they got back together. And I liked Audioslave. Obviously a different sound because you have a completely different style of singer. I thought they still did a good job of showcasing Morello's style on a lot of their songs though. Obviously if you like more the rap vibe De La Rocha gave than the more classic rock style of Cornell you probably weren't much of a fan. Personally I dig both.
