So this is probably going to a stupid thread, but

does anyone out there have an uncontrollable urge to point out incorrect grammar or spelling? I know it isn't my place to call people out, especially on a message board, but I can't help noticing mistakes. What are some of the most common mistakes you see on Cyclone Fanatic? (I actually think most CF users have a pretty good grasp on grammar.)

Alumnus is the singular form of alumni.
I am an alumnus. We are alumni.

    Could of
Could of should almost always be could have.
Iowa State could have won the game if players would have made shots.
I think this comes from the contraction could've, which sounds like could of.

    Then and than.
Then usually indicates time and than is usually a comparison.
(Basketball and volleyball are at different times.) I went to the basketball game and then I went to the volleyball game.
(The games are at the same time.) I went to the basketball game rather than going to the volleyball game.

I feel like maybe I'm the only person with this grammar problem - but maybe not.

(I imagine I made a mistake or two in this post. Feel free to point it out.)

Ask revkah about that during our first year of marriage. By nature, I'm kind of a jerk about it.

Probably because most people don't take hours to compose messages.

They type and post. Thoughts and fingers don't always marry up well.

I was an English major at ISU, and I am a technical writer by trade, so yes, poor grammar bugs the hell out of me.

    Nope, don't give a crap.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

Re: So this is probably going to a stupid thread, but

Here is my opinion. Most people including myself are doing this at work. People get in and check the board when they have some downtime. They don't want to leave Cyclonefanatic up on the screen any longer than they have to so they cut corners on grammer etc. Sometimes I don't even make sense when I go back and read things.

This is not English 301. Just my 2 pennies.

You're probably right. I don't get annoyed or angry, but I always notice grammar.

I think the only thing that bothers me is,
I'm an alumni of Iowa State.
That statement just puts ISU's english educational credibility to question.

    My biggest pet peeve

I really am not a grammar Nazi. This just does not make sense at all when used in the context most do. It only irritaes me when it doesn't make sense. I also don't like when people say irregardless.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

Re: So this is probably going to a stupid thread, but

I get annoyed with these two mix-ups:

your (possessive); you're (contraction of "you" and "are")

there (exists); their (possessive); they're (contraction of "they" and "are")

    Oh, and let's throw in:
    "to" and "too"
