    Dendy's Shot

All I've heard about is how Dendy took the craziest shot ever in a crucial time.

Sorry, but can somebody fill me in on what exactly happened? I was at work and was not able to see the game. Thanks.

Tough loss tonight, though. However, UNI is a quality team so you can't be all too upset. This is the game of the year for them, you know they came in pumped up more than ever.

However, you will get a nice boost of confidence next Friday when the Hawks roll into town.

    Re: Dendy's Shot

Minute and a half left or so, we are transition, Dendy gets the ball in the corner...takes a somewhat wide open from about 12 feet out and puts up an airball. UNI rebounds, and Farukenesh (sp?) hits a transition three to take the lead.

40 seconds left 15 footer airball with 30 on the shot clock.

    Re: Dendy's Shot

It was inexplicable, really. And I think he realized it halfway through the shot. It was almost like he tried to stop it from happening, but still let go of it, about 3 feet short of the rim. We had just rebounded the ball, with under a minute left and a one point lead. And he chucked it up about 10 seconds into the shot clock. It's still a moot point if we had made FT's down the stretch...

    Re: Dendy's Shot

quite possibly the dumbest and most awful thing that could have happened in that situation. A 4th grader would get chewed out by his coach for taking that shot let alone a d-1 basketball player

It wouldn't have been nearly as bad if there was that much time left on the clock. We could have milked it down to about 10 seconds for UNI, and we were guaranteed to have the lead.

    Re: Dendy's Shot

ISU was holding onto a one-point lead for the last couple of minutes of the game, more or less. UNI was missing their shots and we were getting the majority of the rebounds during this sequence.

Anyway, with around a minute left, UNI shot and missed, ISU got the rebound, Garrett passed the ball to Dendy who took an ill-advised (to put it mildly) shot that missed the rim with around 30 seconds left on the shot clock, UNI rebounds, passes it up to Farokmanesh, who drains an NBA range three-pointer. For all intents and purposes, game, set, match.

Dumbest shot taken I've seen in a long, long time. Plenty of time left on the shot clock to milk the clock, or at least take it in strong for a higher-percentage shot. I would be tempted to pull his scholarship, it was such a bone-headed decision.

I know he had a couple good games early, but knew he'd been hurt.

Is he usually in at crunch time like that?

    Re: Dendy's Shot

My guess is for some reason he thought we were losing by 1, not up by 1, inexcusable.

Hamilton hasn't been getting a lot of PT in the 2nd half lately because he's been bad, and Vanderbeken hurt his knee earlier in the game, and it didn't look good.

    Re: Dendy's Shot

Was browsing around on facebook and went to Dendy's page and his status reads, "Apologize... I'm sorry." With some more random comments about this status somebody asked why, and he said, "I lost the game."

I admit the shot was horrible and was one of the worst mistakes I've seen in a long time, but he feels horrible. I hope he realizes that he didn't lose the game, but the entire team and staff lost. What if Diante didn't miss his first free throw and its tied. It could have been completely different.

    Re: Dendy's Shot

I feel for the guy. Your are taught from a very early age that if you are open...you shoot the ball. If was wide open, the game was close, and the way our offense had been going...we may not have gotten a better shot from running our sets. I hope he doesn't beat himself up too much for this.
