    NIT Tournament Thread

I know a lot of people don't care about the NIT, but I actually do. Especially with the new format where we get to watch the little guys take on the big guys.

Here are the results from last night's games:

    FSU def. Toledo
    Michigan def. Utah State
    West Virginia def. Deleware State
Miss. State def Miss. Valley State
    NC State def. Drexel
    UMASS def. Alabama
    Marist def. Oklahoma State

The Marist win over Okie State surprised me. And maybe Drexel isn't as good as advertised after losing to NC State.

And what a year for Alabama...they were in the preseason Top 10 and they bow out of the NIT after a loss to UMASS.

    Tonights games:
    E Tenn State vs. Clemson
    Fresno State vs. Georgia
    So. Alabama vs. Syracuse
    Appalachian State vs. Mississippi
    Vermont vs. Kansas State
    Providence vs. Bradley
    Hofstra vs. Depaul
San Diego St vs. Missouri St.
    Austin Peay vs. Air Force

Anyone else's thoughts? Does anyone else care?

    Re: NIT Tournament Thread

I'm dissappointed to see OSU bow out in the first round, but I think they were a little burnt out from their Big XII Tournament run. I do enjoy when a Big XII team represents well in both tournaments, but beyond that, I don't care much about the NIT.

I look for Kansas State to have a pretty good run in the NIT.

NC State didnt suprise me, they beat some good teams this year..and they beat some overated teams as well (duke)

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: NIT Tournament Thread

Now that the NCAA has taken over the ownership of the NIT, I see the possiblity of the NCAA expanding to 96 teams and eliminating the NIT in a few years.
As for now, I think the current NIT format is much more fair than the previous one.

I hope they never expand the NCAA tournament. It would be terrible if the Tournament became like as easy to get into as a college bowl game.

    Re: NIT Tournament Thread

I heard a idea on espn radio the other day where someone suggested making the NIT for the 32 teams that lose in the first round with a chance to earn their way back into the tournement.
I really liked that idea but it probably would never happen.

    Attendence numbers:

    Georgia - 2,031
    Clemson - 3,150
    Syracuse - 16,832
    Ole Miss - 4,696
    K-State - 8,596
    Bradley - 8,304
    DePaul - 4,056
    Miss St. - 4,234

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Not terrible attendence really. Most of those schools are in football hot spots and don't draw heavily. The schools who care about bball (K-State, Syracuse, and Bradley filled the seats. Looked like Ok State and UMass had good crowds as well. This new NIT is a lot more entertaining for me.

    Re: NIT Tournament Thread

KSU was averaging well over 12,000 per game this year...that number is less than impressive. But that will happen when you think you will be in the big dance.

Good crowd for Bradley's game...I don't imagine their arena is much bigger than 8,300.
