    Time To End Cyclone Alley!

I don't want to blame anybody with this post, but rather talk about fixing the existing problem. I know those on the Cyclone Alley committee mean well but let's face it, Cyclone Alley has completely ruined the student section in Hilton.

College kids don't like structure, they don't like routine, they like to be spontaneous and have freedom. Cyclone Alley by nature is meant to be an organization that keeps things organized and structured - that kills excitement and the fans simply do not respond in a positive light to it.

My personal opinion - can Cyclone Alley and instead of spending the resources on it, do more exciting and modern activities to get the fans and younger generation into the spirit. Our past history of Hilton Magic is all but nonexistent. Sure, it surfaces for the Kansas game each year but that is it. We have a pretty good count of fans at each game but in my opinion there has been NOTHING done over the past decade to get them involved. We laugh at Iowa for having a few hundred fans in the stands but on TV they're still louder than us most nights.

Another problem is the way students are allowed into the student section. It's great that we can have matching shirts for the kids, but if a student can't go to a game, they can't just give their ticket to somebody that can because they also have to lend a dirty shirt.... ewww.

Please, save Hilton Magic while there is still anything left to save.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

I always disliked CA because it segregates students. People will make the argument "It's only $20," but I still don't agree with it.

I'm with you. CA started while I was still a student. Back when one side was just students and the other was CA. Our side of just students was always louder than CA.

While they may look better being all dressed the same and making fun motions with their hands and what not - they are simply not loud and crazy at all.

If we don't have the ball, the announcers on TV should have a hard time talking to each other because of the volume. I havn't heard the crowd get into once tonight at all. Even on the bad calls we should be pressing the refs big time! But no, just a lil boo and we move on.

They tried CA to get something back at Hilton - I think the efforts were well, but the results have never been good. TIME TO GO BACK TO JUST STUDENTS.

Saw that on TV just now too. Right after we just got the lead back, UNI brings the ball down and the student have their arms folded?!?!?!?

STUDENTS: as an Alum I am now one of the 'old people' and I MAKE MORE NOISE AT A GAME THAN YOU DO - yes I'm calling you out! All of you. You have a job to do at the game and it's not to just watch it - you need to get into it!

I was a student then too. The year before CA...student section f-in' loud. First year of CA with one side normal student section was still fairly loud. Both sides CA = loss of student Hilton Magic.

get rid of cyclone alley. They aren't enthusiastic. The stupid free throw diversions never work. Jumping around being crazy is way better than organized crap! It does not excite me to watch a game at hilton anymore.

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley?

I was about to post ripping into doubters, but after that amazing, lucky three Diante made, what was the next shot of the student section? A guy in the back, arms crossed, yawning.

    SERIOUSLY?

I've only been out of school for a couple years, but count me among the group that saw better days out of these students.

And I agree, while I was among those who said "it's only 20 bucks", I think it's time to end Cyclone Alley. It's not a bad idea for a student section in need of a facelift. But our student section didn't need a facelift.

It's created a culture of general apathy in both the CA members and the students who've been "segregated" to the top balcony. The students need to be reunited.

Re: Time To End Cyclone Alley?

Spot on Jeremy. The only good thing to come from CA is that the uniform t-shirts look nice. But the atmosphere is totally lacking. I was also a student during the transition from general seating to CA, and I agree that it seemed at the time when we had both sections in existance, the general secation always had better attendence and was more involved in the game. It was a great experiment, but I think the results should speak for themselves at this point.

This. And I don't necessary blame CA as a concept, but 8-10 people making decisions for an entire group does not equate hostile environment. It equates a bunch of sheeple going through the motions... "cuz thats what the sign he's holdin' says."

Maybe not get rid of CA all together but certainly scale it back.

Jeremy I like the idea of focusing on the younger generation - get grade school/high school kids excited about Cyclone Atheletics
