Looking at the standings from 2004 to now I would have to say no.

I thought there was a bowl rule to make sure this couldn't happen?

Only applies if there are more bowl eligible teams than bowls. Since we don't have that, it is a free for all.

Wasn't NW 8-4 the year Iowa went to the Alamo at 6-6? I could have sworn the Hawks totally leap frogged a team that either had a better record or same record and they (the Hawks) had lost head to head.

In 2005, Michigan went to the Alamo while Iowa went to the Outback, both teams had the same record (although Michigan beat Iowa head to head)

I remember this too, but I'm not sure about the records...and I don't care enough about the Hawkeyes to look it up.

Maybe you're thinking of 2006? They went to the Alamo Bowl at 6-6 when an 8-5 Purdue team went to the Champ Sports.

That is the best example I think. 2006 Big Ten Conference football season - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Purdue was 5-3 in conference, Iowa 2-6. Ouch to Purdue.

As others have stated, the easiest example is the 6-6 Iowa Hawkeyes vs. 9-3 Texas Longhorns in the 2006 Alamo Bowl.

Purdue got the shaft, but the Big 10's bowl package is so good [barf] it doesn't really matter.

Re: Was a 6-6 team EVER picked before an 8-4 team???

I think the Champs picked ahead of the Alamo that year. I thought there was a 7 win rule in conference tie ins, but apparently not...because the B12 commish is whining about it. I love the 'This isn't over' quote from B12 Commish in KC Star...

The Big 12 just does not have the bargaining power of other conferences. I could see the Insight saying, 'OK. That's fine. We'll just contact the Pac 10 and line up one of their teams against the Big Ten for this bowl in the future.'

They will take who they want, who makes the most economic sense...and I hope they take ISU. ISU vs Minnesota, I would favor ISU in that game, whereas I would favor Navy vs ISU in the Texas.

And Doc Gooden, hawks et al . . . should remind themselves about this AGAIN. They do get "special" treatment and everybody outside of IC knows it.

They get special consideration, because of their track record, which is their reputation, as it comes to bowls.

And everyone knows that the system as it stands rewards that.
