Where to go for Kitchen/Bathroom remodel (DSM Area)

Next year I think I'm going to have to replace everything in two bathrooms (the toilets/vanities anyway), along with a few things in the kitchen:

Where's the place to go to pick this stuff up? Anyone know of any good contractors for the stuff that's a little more difficult for do-it-yourself (I don't really want to deal with the kitchen counter/cabinets)?

It seems like Lowes/Home Depot is pretty limited on what they have to offer, and seemed to be priced a little high on a few things compared to what's on the internet (Home Depot's ceramic tile was $6.50/sqft, which seems out of whack). Are there any good stores out there that specialize in this stuff?

Flooring, toilets, vanities are all pretty easy. Had never done it before and had no problem with it on my first attempt. Go to DIYnetwork if you have a question before you start.

For countertops Nebraska Furniture Mart is reasonably priced and there is also a place out on 100th in Urbandale just north of Douglas but can't think of the name (Renaissance maybe?).

Re: Where to go for Kitchen/Bathroom remodel (DSM Area)

Did my kitchen 1 1/2 years ago.

Got good price on flooring from Lumber Liquidators they have a store on 100th and Hickman in Clive.

I had Renaissance Marble and Tile do my granite kitchen countertops and they were great to work with and great installers. I found that granite was much more expensive than the nicer/high quality laminate.

Re: Where to go for Kitchen/Bathroom remodel (DSM Area)

Youll save tons of money doing it yourself go buy a Home Depot DIY book worth a shot

But also check out the Habitat for Humanity Store On 6th Ave. in Des Moines,IA
Most of it comes from home builders or remodels its all donated and makes money for Habitat, I've seen tons of great stuff Lighting Granite Counter top Pedistal sinks vanity's with sinks mirrors doors paint and its cheap. Lots of stuff isn't worth your time but I saw a $2500 fridge for sale for $600 it was just given to Habitat by a rich couple wanting something different check it out.

Sunderlands Tile (??) in Urbandale - they do commercial work, but they used to have a showroom and samples of extra material they'd have from jobs, at crazy low prices. Not sure if they still do - been a few years since I tried.

Not sure if you can order from them or not.

Has anyone purchased tiles or cabinets from somewhere not mentioned above?

I got most all materials (including cabinets) from Home Depot or Lowes. Countertop and tile too.

Yeah that's what I figured; I was hoping there were more options out there.

I'll have to give sunderlands a call and check out the habitat for humanity store
