    New Rag Article

I'm not sure I can bash the DM Rag for this article as they seem to have taken qoutes from others. I was still surprised to read that we are still second to EIU in others eyes.

    Growth potential

"Individually, growth potential is high for Sanderson's athletes," said Jason Bryant of InterMat, who gave the Cyclones a B-plus. "That should parlay well with the team's potential."

Bryant sees Brands - who has Dan Gable as an assistant coach - also putting a strong stamp on the future strength of the Hawkeyes.

He gave the Hawkeyes an A.

I would think with Cael's first year, everyone could see what he's building and where we are going.

The whole article is kind of weird. It seemed like it jumped all over and never really said anything of substance.

    Re: New Rag Article

I thought that kind of made Brands look bad. Sanderson has done more with less essentially.

Plus, when you're sitting at 2nd in the nation and still have growth potential, you're doing alright.

    Re: New Rag Article

This is not Brands first year as a head coach, it is for Cael though. Also the Cyclones are #2 in the country after getting whupped by the Hawks and now are gunning for Minnesota. How can you not give Cael at least equal if not better rating than Brands? He's doing this as a first year coach with little prior coaching expirience. This is not taking away from the job Brands has done because he has done well too but no one thought Cael would have this much success so quickly after the beating Iowa put on us.

The ratings were not placed on the coaches, they were placed on their current athletes.

I don't think anyone in their right minds would say Brands has done a better job. Not even Brands.

I think it is funny how the article says that at EIU, Brands name alone has pull with recruits. Um.......Can you say Cael Sanderson?

    Re: New Rag Article

I don't know of a bigger recruiting pull than to have a guy that never lost in college and has a gold medal come into your living room to recruit you to wrestle. Think of how nice that must be to tell parents or even during practice to a wrestler "hey, I never lost a collegiate match and I own a gold medal. Listen and learn from me and I think you'll learn a few things or 2." How can any of his wrestlers ever doubt his instruction? If Cael says you need to work on this or that or use a certain move in a situation you'd have to know that Cael knows what he is talking about and knows what's best.

Iowa has it nice too having Gable to help recruit but you still would have to be awestruck by having the best wrestler ever come into your house and tell you that he wants you to wrestle for him.

The article says that--but the grade on the left side show it the opposite way! How's that for idiocy?

Oops. That's the grades from one specific person--I'm assuming the grades on the left are an aggregate of 6 "experts" the Register talked to. Nice of them to pick the person who must have been the absolute most pro-Hawkeye. If that person gave Brands an A and Cael a B+, the other 5 saw it differently if the aggregate is Brands B+ and Cael A-

If that was in fact the case, then the RAG may have hit a new all time high for pathetic-ness.... or hawkeye homerism... whatever you want to call it.
