Patterson and TCU finalizing new long-term deal

Looks like TCU is trying to secure Patterson before the "big boys" come calling...

Sources: TCU, Gary Patterson agree to contract extension - ESPN Dallas

Re: Patterson and TCU finalizing new long-term deal

I have always wondered why he seems content at TCU. TCU is nowhere near the #1 or #2 job in the state of Texas. Their attendance is horrible. I just don't get it.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Re: Patterson and TCU finalizing new long-term deal

Some guys just don't aspire to make the move up. Who knows, in 2 weeks he may be coaching Oklahoma. ;)

But, it's a decent gig for him. Nice salary, does not have the huge pressure that other programs have. Gets to pick from Texas/Oklahoma leftovers (which are still pretty good) and in most years - dominate his conference.

And then dominate so much, impress enough people and - you get to go to a BCS bowl (which they should).

It was only a matter of time before people looked at the Rich Rod's of the world and realized that maybe they have a pretty good gig where they're at. See: Kirk Ferentz.

TCU probably just wants to extend him so that any team that tries to snap him up has to bay a big buyout. If TCU is smart, they will try and get an extension done asap.

Patterson said on Dan Patrick that he signed an extension last night that includes NO BUYOUT.

So if he get's hired away, the new team doesn't have to pay TCU anything? Why would TCU do that?

Who holds more cards in that deal. Patterson or TCU?

True, but you would think they could at least get a small buy-out to help cover the cost of finding a replacement.

He said that it's because he has been there 12 years, he has been loyal to them despite other offers and now they need to be loyal to him.
