A College Football Playoff Scenario for fun

I was bored one night and came up with a possible scenario if they came up with a 16 team playoff with the conference champions and the best independent and 4 wild cards which would be 13-16 seed.

The first round would be the first weekend in December would be at the home of the higher seed.

    1 Florida
    16 Virginia Tech

    8 Georgia Tech
    9 Houston

    5 Boise State
    12 Troy

    4 TCU
    13 Alabama

    6 Ohio State
    11 Central Mich

    3 Cincinnati
    14 Iowa

    7 Oregon
    10 Navy

    2 Texas
    15 Pittsburgh

The second round would be the next weekend at the higher seed. Losers of games in the first two rounds would be placed in bowls in December.

The Final four would be at either Rose, Orange, Fiesta, or Cotton stadium on Jan 1.

The final 2 would play for the true national championship a week later.

I would definately watch this. Let me know your thoughts.

Most people tend to like their own creation.

I don't care for a playoff because it's not something that's likely to benefit ISU football in any way.

we have just as good of a chance to make a playoff as we do making a BCS game. Either way we would have to win the conference championship game.

I can't see going for more than an 8 team playoff. Use the BCS rankings to select/seed the teams. I don't think there's ever more than 8 teams that can claim a legit shot.

True, but I would like to see every conference have to have at least 12 teams and a championship game... That way Championship week would basically be the first round of the playoffs.

I like this thought.... especially the first part... which then makes sense for the last part

This. I think an 8 team playoff should be good enough, without having to play too many games.
Those four games would play in a BCS bowl (Rose, Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar) the winners would play in a semi-final game, and then obviously the NC. The bowls still make their money and we add a couple more bowl games for the semis. Everything else is the same.

    Ideally, you'd have

    Orange (ACC vs. Big East)
Fiesta (Big 12 vs. At Large)
    Sugar (SEC vs. At Large)
    Rose (Big 10 vs. Pac-10)

Winners of these games play in national semifinals, winner of those plays in national championship. Traditional conference ties may have to be severed in the process, but you could set it up with one bowl being 1 vs 8 in BCS standings, 2 vs. 7, etc.

National semifinals/championship could either be at a fifth site or rotate among the four BCS bowls.

Of course, I'm not suggesting anything that hasn't been suggested a thousand times. I just wouldn't want to see the DI postseason drug out any more.

    Hell of an idea.

Don't even need to call the semis 'bowl games". It could just be the Final Four or some other catchy (and trademark-able) name.

Good concept, but where you have some of the teams seeded is a bit odd.

Would this hurt conference runner ups from conferences with championship games? With a loss recently would the 2nd team in these get snubbed more? Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on this were.

Nope, if anything it would give a team with an early loss a chance at redemption... If you lose that late (championship week) then you dont deserve a shot.

I like the thought, but I'd take the top 16, regardless of conference affiliation, unless perhaps giving the top six conference champs an automatic.

This. A playoff will not help us one bit. In face it will more than likely get rid of any parity that exists right now in college football.

It would help the smaller conferences and the weaker divisions. All you have to do is win a division and you have a legit chance to make a playoff... If the MAC gets a bid you could see a MAC school turn into a legit Top 25 team every year because they could sell a chance at the playoffs.

As it is, the bowl system doesn't "help us" any either.
