Re: Vehicle Sunk in Gray's Lake

I drove by Gray's Lake right when this whole rescue was going on. There were a bunch of vehicles from law enforcement, local news, etc. with everyone staring out at the lake. I figured someone drowned... didn't expect to turn on the news a few minutes later to find out an SUV plunged into the water.

From the witness they had on TV, it sounds like this wasn't an accident. The passenger was waving frantically to anyone outside the car, and the driver was gunning the engine as they were about to hit the water (so you could probably rule out some sort of mechanical failure like brakes).

EDIT: Should have read the comments, the comments regarding a stuck accelerator also make a lot of sense. This is still an enormous tragedy though... all my thoughts and prayers go out to any of the victims' families and friends.

No one jumps in and tries to save the lady is what I find odd. Usually there is at least one hero standing around.

I find it odd as well, but without hurting anyone's feelings, it was on the south-side.

It is miracle she did not hit anybody walking on the path. I believe it happened around 10:15, if it had happened an hour later there would have been allot of people on the path.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims family.

Yeah because living on the West Side makes you a hero.

Probably because the water is a little chilly.

So was there a passenger? There was only one person in the car when they pulled it out. Also, don't buy a stuck accelerator; story says the suv stopped, just floored it straight ahead.

Me and a coworker drove buy at 11:30; figured someone drowned. Didn't even guess a vehicle drove into it.

A well thought out post, ummmm, not so much...

Grey's Lake is considered "south side"?

    Huh...

It's south of the Raccoon. That's kind of what I thought the definition of "south side" was.

I think it's a little too close to downtown to be considered as such.

Re: Vehicle Sunk in Gray's Lake

    Me too.

I suppose I consider that SE14/SW9/Army Post area "south side".

    But whatever.

It was 10:45 on a Monday...probably a lot of senior citizens out walking the lake at that time, and the lake is very cold right now...
