I just cant imagine that the Independence Bowl would pass on the Iowa State/Auburn match-up if they could make it happen...

I tend to agree. I think right now Indy would prefer A&M but if all of a sudden Auburn drops into their lap I think it may be tough for them to pass up the Auburn vs. ISU match-up. That story would at least get some press for that Bowl, where as most other match-ups will not garner much attention.

Not to mention next year they start ACC-Mountain West match-ups, so I'm guessing they will want to capitalize as much as they can on this years game...

On the A&M boards, the majority prefers the matchup with Navy in the Texas Bowl.

Hopefully Nebbie pulls the upset and we can go to Phoenix anyway.

Any team with prefer that match-up over Auburn. I prefer that match-up over Auburn. I think Texas A&M would give Auburn a better game than ISU would, and I think Navy would give ISU a better game than they would Texas A&M. That being said, its all about money and little about the actual match-up.

Auburn won't be in the Independence Bowl. I'm guessing Kentucky.

No way. The SEC's bowl pecking order goes BCS, Cap One, Cotton, Outback, Chick-Fil-A, Independence, Liberty, Music, and Papa Johns. After Auburn's performance on Friday, they wont do worse than the Independence Bowl. They will be the first 3-5 conference team taken.

I agree. I think it will be hard for them to pass on Auburn vs. ISU. We will see what happens but I think that is where it goes unless Nebraska wins.

Anyone know in which order Independence picks their teams? Will they even know their SEC team before they have to pick between us and A&M?

I would personally rather see us in the Texas bowl over the Independence, I would have rather had the Insight over anything else but i doubt that will happen.

Exactly. A lot of people are too focussed on the order of selection as if this is a fantasy football draft. The bowls have their preferences, but there is a lot of influence by the conference offices. That is why some publications have Indy as still a possibility for ISU. TA&M will travel to either location. TA&M fans and their cadet tradition would love to play Navy in Houston. The Texas Bowl and the Big 12 offices know that an ISU v Navy matchup is a disaster for ticket sales in a 72,000 seat NFL stadium, while A&M v Navy would draw a great A&M crowd. The bowl payouts make no difference to the schools since the Big 12 shares net bowl revenue equally among all 12 schools and both bowls have the same expense budget.

ISU to Indy makes some sense on several levels for the conference office to push for it. But the Indy Bowl may ignore their wishes since the Big 12 is dropping them anyway. It probably will be Texas Bowl, but I don't think it is 100% by any stretch. And if we go to Indy, I don't want to play Auburn.
