    ISU vs Navy (Tough Matchup)

Some seem to be penciling in a win against Navy in the Texas Bowl. I remember going down to watch ISU play TCU and people seemed to think the same thing. We got beat in a close game and now TCU is one of the best teams in the country. I would much rather travel to Houston and I do think it is a better chance at a victory but keep in mind we could be playing a 10 win team in Houston. I don't care who they played 10 wins is still impressive.

I wont pencil in a win against any bowl eligible team. However, i think what you've seen is comparing a possible navy game vs an SEC game, and even if we dont beat navy, we'll probably have a game there, if we play an SEC team, more than likely we get blown out.

Navy lost to Hawaii last night, so at best they will be 9-4.

As little as Navy throws the ball, that would be a good match up for us.

Beat me by one minute. Navy just lost to a bad Hawaii team. They will be tougher than Army, but are basically a one dimensional option running team. I like our chances against Navy over any SEC team.

They also lost to an average Temple team earlier in the year...as was said, they'll be tougher version of Army, but a game that ISU would have a very good chance of winning.

Ditto, I like us vs. Navy much more than a Tennessee or Arkansas

Re: ISU vs Navy (Tough Matchup)

Navy doe a nice job with what they have, and scared a pretty good Ohio State team, but they would be a great matchup for a defense built on stopping the run first like ISU.

As for the OP comments on TCU in the ISU bowl in Texas: TCU only had one or two losses that year and they were to very good team/teams. TCU ended up being 9th in the country in the final polls. One of the things that always made me mad, ISU gets the lowest bowl game for the Big 12 and has to play a better team than the 5 Big 12 team ahead of them, and in TCUs home state. It just didn't seem right.

ISU is going to struggle with whomever they play in a bowl, but Navy at least will not out athlete us like most SEC teams would.

Re: ISU vs Navy (Tough Matchup)

Navy is just a notch below an SEC team. We could easily get blown out by either. ISU's best chance for a bowl win is against Minnesota in the Insight bowl.

With that said, playing in Houston helps recruiting more.

I'm really not afraid of Ky or Tennessee.

Wouldn't want to play Arkansas though.

Re: ISU vs Navy (Tough Matchup)

I agree. I'm not saying Navy would be tougher than an SEC team but I wouldn't be surprised if Navy is favored in that possible game. Also I have a question. When teams play Hawaii they get 13 games. They have to win 7 games instead of 6 to go to a bowl though right? Its my understanding you have to have 6 wins or a winning record?

TCU and Navy's football programs are not comparable. And I don't remember anyone assuming we would go down there 5 years ago and walk all over TCU, although in the end we did have our chances to win the game

If we play an SEC team, we are going to be at a significant talent disadvantage. If we play Nave, that is not the case. But that's just my humble opinion

Re: ISU vs Navy (Tough Matchup)

I think we'd match up considerably well against Navy. With Jesse Smith and his run-stopping ability + a healthy Teran Benton, I see us running a Defense similar to the one we ran against army. w/o that 6'10" receiver they had, we hold them to 3 points.

Navy probably has better all around athletes, and will come into the game at 9-4.

ISU has put up 2,000 yards passing and 2,000 yards rushing. Navy has 800 yards passing and 3000 yards rushing.
