    Wyoming's McClain fired

Wasn't this the same guy we were after when the LE fallout occurred?

Yes, he was. This is like the 3rd guy from that coaching search who is unemployed now.

    Re: Wyoming's McClain fired

Anyone know if he was "the guy" or high on the list for the vacancy at the time? Seem to recall him not wanting anything to do with us but could be wrong. Funny how some things work out.

He's from Iowa originally and called us his "dream job". He left ****** after we didn't offer it to him.

    Re: Wyoming's McClain fired

McClain has Iowa ties, and wanted the job. The interview didn't go well, and he went away mad. Did VandeVelde get this one right? Colorado State, Wyoming, and New Mexico all fired their coaches. Terry Carrol got the axe at Denver also.

    Re: Wyoming's McClain fired

If I remember correctly, didn't Gary Thompson have some "questions" about hiring him? I'm not sure he wowed anyone during the search, which I thought was too bad because I thought it would have been great to get someone from Iowa, funny how things work out some times......

I'll tell you one thing...that VandeVelde knows how to hire a coach.

    Re: Wyoming's McClain fired

What's really interesting is New Mexico hired Mckay and he got fired before season end........guy had little sucess here like Fran Franchisilla. LE is rumored to be interviewed here (UNM) this weekend. He was the first to express interest in New Mexico Job. The Lobo sites are full of ISU firing stuff....drinking etc. Looks like he might be considered here after all.

    Re: Wyoming's McClain fired

I was ecstatic when we didn't offer McClain. I'm thankful we didn't get Altman either. I wasn't too thrilled with Morgan either, but he was the best we could and he held the team together. It was an ugly time. I knew we just had to ride it out for a few years before we could get a better coach.

I would have been happy with Altman. I think the guy is would be very good at a BCS school.

    Who did BVD hire?

Fennelly and D-Mac were already here. Wasn't Douglas here as well?

IMO, I don't think BVD hired Morgan - he was given the job as the last resort to keep recruits after no one else wanted the job. Likely a big reason was any new coach had to keep Morgan on the staff.

So while I didn't care for BVD and some of the things he did, I don't rip on him for his hirings - because he really didn't make any.

    Re: Wyoming's McClain fired

Altman was already at a BCS school and he wasn't that great.

I think McClain's a pretty solid coach but he's had some bad luck and some bad recruiting decisions leading to a bad couple of years.

Is this considered an upgrade for LE? I mean Southern Miss isn't a power school but neither is NM, is it? LE is really just starting to put together his style of teams at SM. Why would he want to leave to start over again.

Also, I believe "the guy" after the LE thing blew up at ISU was Lebo (sp?) who I believe has gotten into some trouble himself. I can't recall all the details.

Because no one wanted to work for him.
