Sources: Steve Kragthorpe out as coach of Louisville Cardinals - ESPN

And this guy was supposedly getting considered for some big jobs a couple years ago.

They gave him all of 3 years there. You're a basketball school, Louisville.

That's great, but you still have to give your coach time to build a program.

Are you joking? This school was one play away from the National Title in 2006. Kragthorpe just ran them into the ground...

I'm thinking Mike Leach to Louisville, and thank god. It's going to be really, really hard for Tech to get another coach that good to come to Lubbock.

The leach rumor has been out there awhile.... TT will always be stuck behind UT an OU in the B12 south

Petrino had a 40-9 record there, including 12-1 in his last season...

What is a contract or commitment worth to a college FB coach, if more $$ is available elsewhere?

I am aware of this. Coaching changes at any program bring discontent among players, attrition, and the need for players to learn new systems. It isn't always easy, even if the players that are there have been successful.

The Big East is wide open, and will be until a Rich Rod or Brian Kelly sticks around, or a Mike Leach comes to town. Leach knows he'll always be stuck behind UT and OU, and if he wants to play for a national title (which he presumably does), Louisville provides a better opportunity than Tech. It provides for a larger potential fan base, less competition in-state and in conference, and the school is committed to improving facilities. It's almost a no-brainer, IMO.

He had a ton of returning talent on offense, but a dreadful defense. Offense is great, but only if they can get on the field.

Bottom-line---there is nothing rational or logical about the coaching carousel
