Fizer's Big XII Tournament Championship scoring record

Did anyone else see that Durant came one point from Fizer's record of 38 points in the Big XII Championship game? He had all overtime to score one point to tie it or two to overtake Marcus, but couldn't. Heck, he even had over a minute or maybe two in regulation! I, for one, don't mind that Fizer gets to keep the record. What a player...

Fizer is a once in a generation kind of talent for Iowa State! Great memories!

If Durant ends up being half the player Marcus Fizer was, it will be something scary!

I did catch that. I still can't figure out what kept Marcus from being big time in the NBA. He seemed to have all the tools to be a star. I don't know if he just couldn't get used to playing against other players who were as strong as he is.

Re: Fizer's Big XII Tournament Championship scoring record

Fizer was too small to play power forward, and too limited to play small forward. The Bulls screwed up by drafting him, and he was put into that trainwreck.

He also had the knee injury, and that happened when he was playing pretty well. He came back and played for the Bucks, but he had a rep as a selfish player, and I think that he and Bill Cartwright had some problems which led to him getting a bad reputation.

And Durant is all that and a bag of chips. He is the best player that I have seen on the college level since Danny Manning. He is the one player in the NCAA, that could lead his team to a national championship on his back. I think Fizer was great, and that was the best Iowa State team ever, but Durant is operating on an entirely different plain.

Re: Fizer's Big XII Tournament Championship scoring record

Fizer was undersized to play the PF in the NBA and didn't have the shooting range to play the SF. The NBA is a totally different game from college ball. Fizer was one of the greatest ever at ISU, wish he would have stayed around for one more... :-(

Anyone know how many shots Fizer needed to set his record? Durant took like 30 shots.

He was a tweener. 6-8 260 who could nopt outjump the 7 footers, could not shoot inside, could not outrun the fast guys. Yet he was very good in many things. If he had been 6-11. he would have been a big star.
