Is being the Notre Dame Football coach still a marquee job?

With all the speculation on a new head coach (if Charlie gets fired) I'm wondering if the job is really still that important?

Re: Is being the Notre Dame Football coach still a marquee job?

Absolutely. NBC contract and ESPN talks about them daily. They recruit top 10 talent there and they have a fanbase second to none.

If they get a good coach, they will be a 10 win team in a year or 2 IMO

But are their expectations a little too high?

For all the money and resources that school has they sure don't know how to hire anyone. Their last several coaches have been terrible.

Is this a real question? It is one of the top positions in all of CFB and will always be.

Absolutely it's a real question, Notre Dame isn't what they use to be (losing to UConn at home?) The Fighting Irish haven't been fighting since Lou left them to spit and slur all over ESPN

Over the years, of all the people I've gotten to know a little bit that had high profile positions, not a single one of them worried about outside expectations. They were (and are) very driven to do the best job they could and pretty much had higher expectations for themselves than anyone on the outside did.

Re: Is being the Notre Dame Football coach still a marquee job?

If you're a masochist, it's the greatest job in the world! Notre Dame has tough academics, is in rural Indiana, and generally doesn't accept JUCO's because they can't meet the academic standards. The only reason Notre Dame can still recruit well is because of its NBC contract. If it wasn't for that, they'd probably be considered a Northwestern or Stanford.

The fans are way over demanding also, they expect a BCS game every year. Just look at the fan who punched Clausen. Clausen is one of their top players and is in no way to blame for their bad performance this year, and he still gets clocked.

Notre Dame has the most national titles, heismans, history...you name it. It is the BEST college football job.

A coach knows what he is getting into if he is good enough to lead that program.

Of course it is. Anyone else been to Tuscaloosa, Alabama? If you can recruit to that town, you can recruit anywhere.
    It's all coaching.

Your a Hawk fan and we know all Hawk fans hate ND for some reason or another

Name a team in college football the last 10 years that has been on TV more than Notre Dame? I'm talking about ESPN too. They get talked about all the time

If they hire a Brian Kelly, Meyer, Harbaugh, etc. They will be an elite team in 2 years

Living up to those expectations and losing your job due to it would be something I'd be a little concerned about.

Guess I should have figured that we couldn't have a decent conversation without you trying to derail it with "you're a Hawk fan and hate Notre Dame" crap. Thanks for at least waiting till nearly the end of Page 1.

Lucky for you they don't have the 30 min delivery guarantee at Domino's anymore then.
