I went when I was 16 and pretty much just camped and surfed with a bunch of friends... it was a blast.

Both Monteverde and Manuel Antonio are awesome. Steer clear of San Jose. Just land at the airport and leave immediately. The whole country is so small that it's very easy to get around. Pm me if u have any questions.

I'm planning a trip to surf and fish. I've heard it's a great time.

I went a few years ago and stayed in Jaco Beach and had a blast. Local people were very nice and the dollar is much stronger than the local currency. I remember having great seafood and sushi on the cheap. The Imperial beer is good too! Also check out the deep sea fishing. We caught a 10 foot sail fish.

I hope you aren't afraid of large arachnids or giant centipedes. I'll camp anywhere in the West. Bears and cougars don't bother me. But those two would have me up all night.

    Edit: And scorpions.

wouldn't say im scared of them, but would prefer them not crawling on me either. that's why you sleep in a tent right?

Yes, yes! To cycloneman42 you listen.

Also, if you're not afraid of a drive up in to the mountains and spending a little coin, spend some time in the hot springs pools at the Tabacon resort in Arenal (volcano area, north of San Jose).
