I still think Band of Brothers is one of the top TV mini-series of all time. Damn, it's that good. If you haven't seen it yet do yourself a favor and check it out.

I'll most definitely be watching The Pacific.

Glad I have a little time to decide whether it's worth adding HBO for a few months...

It looks amazing! I loved the first band of brothers and this almost makes me want to get HBO.

Re: Band Of Brothers: The Pacific

So is this based off an Ambrose book about Pacific GI's and they just wanted to connect the series, or something totally different?

    Edit: answered my own question

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pacific_(miniseries)

two memoirs of U.S. Marines: With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie.[3] The series will tell the stories of the two authors and Marine John Basilone, as the war against the Empire of Japan rages.
And apparently Ambrose's son is going to consult.

I'm very excited and will probably end up getting HBO just to watch this, but one of the most compelling things of the Band of Brothers story is a personal connection to the troops through Easy company. Hopefully these memoirs can be used in a similar manner!

Re: Band Of Brothers: The Pacific

Ambrose didn't write about the Pacific. At one time it was to be a combination of several books.

Yeah, it's not a Band of Brothers sequel or anything, just the same directors and whatnot.

Ha I didn't intend to ask if it was a sequel. That's kind of hard to do when you're telling true stories

I agree that the personal connection made it compelling. The good news is, With the Old Breed is about as gripping as you can get.
