I completely believe Hawkins. At least he can admit he was selfish.

Re: Hawkins regrets recruiting his son

It put both of them in tough positions. Nepotisim is a tough thing.

It would have put less pressure on both of them if Cody would have gone elsewhere.

And this is why you cannot be mad at Mac if Dougy does really well at UNI. It is really tough especially at this level to coach your own kid.

Oh cry me a river old man. Your son has sucked, therefore should be criticized. It's football, man up!

Great point! I know some ppl wanted him to come to ISU but the honesty is Doug is a MVC player and we've had enough of those in the past 4 years, I love Iowa State and UNI, but ISU's talent level should always be better that's just how it is. It's a tough choice but I really think the decision by the McDermotts was the right one, for BOTH programs.

Are there any recent examples of someone coaching against their son? I'm having trouble coming up with any.

I think he gives a pretty good assessment of the situation. Although, with some of his quotes, I was hoping for a little Mike Gundy to come out...

Son or not, he should regret recruiting Cody because he sucks.

Maybe his biggest mistake. They desperately needed a quarterback the last 3 years.

I get Hawkins, but Mangino? Because our record has been so good against him lately?
