I love DG as our PG. He has been my favorite player since he came here as Freshman. All he needed was some talent around him, DG tried to do too much last year.

No, we asked him to do too much last year.

Decision making this year has been excellent.

22-8 verses 31-8 assist/To probably has a lot to do with people finishing much better this year than last.

Re: Check out these DG stats

I have said this ever since GMAC has been here.

"We won't compete until we have a team of upperclassmen."

Asking Craig and Diante to lead a Big12 team as fresh and Soph is asking too much. Especially when you don't have much around you.

Now we have our leaders as upper classmen and we have a nice supporting cast. And we look good. And Players like Colvin can come in and learn and get valuable playing time instead of getting thrown into the fire as a starting PG.

Sorry but there is nothing in those stats that say DG is much better this year. I can tell by watching him though that he is much more comfortable and confident though.

Hopefully it continues when we step up and start playing some real competition

Re: Check out these DG stats

DG's only real job on the offensive end is now to distribute the basketball. Don't need him to score, really at all.

I do credit him for the improvement on decision making but I give more credit to him for showing restraint and fitting into his role - rather than looking to be an offensive star. He most certainly could have scored more points against this level of competition (aka, getting his points while he could) but instead did what he needed to do and will need to do all season...

Get the ball to the real scoring threats and don't make mistakes.

There is plenty to take from those stats. He's a smarter basketball player and it starts in his head. He's shot the ball 27 less times. I realize that he has more weapons, but in the past, DG was forcing the issue. He simply isn't doing that anymore. He has goals to lead the league in assists. He used to think about scoring.

    2008 assists per turnover: 2.75
    2009 assists per turnover: 3.9

    2008 fg percentage: 39%
    2009 fg percentage: 50%

Maybe it's easier for you to look at when we use percentages?

27 fewer shots in only 4 games?

    That's a signifcant departure.

Re: Check out these DG stats

There is a significant improvement in DG's game. He either recognizes his role better now, or just has better weapons around him, or both. I hope that Colvin watches DG closely, and learns. Colvin has great potential too, but he is having some of the same problems that DG had his first year........poor shooting percentage, and too many turnovers. Of course, he will not always be out there with the same teammates around him that DG has on the floor, but there is still something he can learn from him I think.

I have only seen the team "on tv" once this year. Who would be the third option right now at point guard if they both got injured?

I posted on your link that I think DG is like a QB on a team that has a really good running game and defense. Just don't make mistakes and we will be ok.

Last year we didn't play 10 guys a game and we didn't have Gilstrap, Christopherson, Dendy, Colvin to help score. DG had to score because we had nobody else besides Craig that could get the job done. Now he doesn't have to.

Better decision making? Definitely. But 2 assists more a game starts with the talent he has surrounding him. We are leading the country in 3 point shooting percentage. When you make over 50% it is going to help the PG get a couple more assists a game
