    Whats with new music?

The AMA thread got me thinking. Maybe I am just getting old. I still like my rock and it seems to be the only real music being made anymore. If I happen to tune into Star or 107.5 I really dont know if you can call 75% of the new music they play music, its just depressing crap, not good IMO. Country is Taylor I cannot sing Swift and 500 other blondes that cannot sing. Maybe its just me.

I was in the tailgating lots for the Okie St. game and this song came blaring on in the student lots and a group of girls started dancing to this song. They were dancing during the chorus, noddin' their head, moving their hips, and then put their hands in the air... it was the most hilarious/sad thing I have ever seen. I couldn't help but to stare in disbelief and then die of laughing because they were trying so hard and doing what the song said...

All older generations hate the younger generations music of choice. So to answer your question yes, you are getting old.

I have to agree that new music sucks. I'm only 21 and I haven't been able to listen to new music now for 2 years. I can hardly stand any of it.

    Re: Whats with new music?

I think a lot of it is that the music industry is more about image and video. Of course it has been that way for a while, but back in the day you actually had to have song writing or singing skills. There is still good music being made, but a lot of junk too.

Part of it might be that when you think back, you remember or listen to music that was the best of an era, and you forget all the junk during that era too. The 1970's has some classic rock, but a lot of bad music also. (I am not that old myself, but older than some on here.)

    Re: Whats with new music?

I think as a general rule, all new music sucks. It really doesn't matter how old you are. People never really appreciate music til it's been around at least a few years. On that, note, I happened to stumble upon the band, Cowboys on Dope, from Germany, tonight. Gotta say that they are the best "new" band I have heard in a long time. They cover "When I'm 64" by the Beatles and "Ghost Riders in the Sky" by Johnny Cash. But, I love a lot of their original stuff, like Too Drunk to ****. If they every toured in the US, I'd be there in a heartbeat...

    Re: Whats with new music?

Of course most generations dislike the younger generation's music, but the new music as of late is unusually bad. Let's be honest...I don't think anyone is going to be listening to Miley Cyrus or Brittney Spears in 10 years.

So no, it's not just because you're getting old.

You are hearing that chorus in a rap song remix. If you hear the original by Imogen Heap, "Hide and Seek," it's quite unique. All vocals; no instruments*. She is quite a singer, and the lyrics in the song are pretty good.

*Edit - I guess she does play some kind of vocal keyboard while singing. Never really seen/heard of one until now...
