Should Notre Dame just drop their football program?

Their expectations are so unrealistically high in regards to some of the limitations they have, that I have to think that even if Jesus ****** himself came back to coach the Domers, he'd be on the hot seat after two seasons.

Well they did have a damn good QB this year with a soft schedule. There was no excuse to win only 6 games. They should have won at least 8 or 9.

Considering how much revenue the football program brings to Notre Dame, the answer is NO!

Lets see...facilities that are second to none in college football, one of the best game-day atmospheres you'll find anywhere in the country, their own national tv and radio networks.

Haven't even mentioned the bucketloads of money that the football program brings in. I really hope the OP is kidding, because if Notre Dame (or any "football" school, really) were to drop football, you may as well disband the entire athletic department.

It's not one of the best gameday experiences. It is THE best gameday experience.

I can't think of any other gameday that has anything close to it.

So, what you are telling me is that ND has their very own version of a Chizik? Gotcha.

I LOLd when I read this subject! Not a good time to be an ND fan for sure! I have always rooted for ND for a variety of reasons (Grandpa loved them, proximity to Chicago, loved their uniforms and others). But I have always disliked Charlie Weis! So I have mixed emotions about this past season...

Re: Should Notre Dame just drop their football program?

This will never happen, nor should it. Way too much tradition there, plus the program still makes money for the school and athletic department. How many other (independent at that) schools have a separate deal with a major network to televise all of their home games?

ND will get their act together at some point. Like any school, they just need to make the right hire and that has not happened yet.

Not if they get Urban Meyer to be their next head coach. Look for them to come up with between 4 and 5 million a year to try and lure Meyer to South Bend. Notre Dame has a lot of alumni with deep pockets and they will pull out all the stops to try and get Meyer.

I hope you guys realize that I was half joking. Of course they shouldn't get rid of their football program. It was more of a commentary of the ridiculously high expectations of the program.

Re: Should Notre Dame just drop their football program?

Notre Dame has an overpaid chump as a head coach. Plain and simple. If they bring in a Saban or Brian Kelly, they will win 10 games a year, every year. I can NOT believe they still have Charlie Weis on the payroll. I think they just fear the lawsuit when they can him, cuz that seems to be his "thing"....

Re: Should Notre Dame just drop their football program?

It is Notre Dame.....They should be expecting 9 or 10 wins a year or something is wrong.

You get the right coach there and things can hum. They obviously don't have the right guy there right now.

Re: Should Notre Dame just drop their football program?

Notre Dame is just a new coach away from being good. ISU or Iowa would love to have ND's last 4 recruiting classes, as would all but a small handful of elite college programs. (and yes, Iowa is not an elite program, sorry guys, they are very good, but I am talking about Texas, Florida, USC, Alabama, LSU, teams that get the first shot at the guys everyone wants)
