They just said that Tech had a tougher schedule then K-State.

They said that since Tech played in the South division and had beat Texas A&M, and Texas, that this was the deciding factor. Wait until next year, the Big 12 was young this year, and I look for the league to become a power house the next couple of years.

thats all fine and dandy... but k-state spanked tech two days ago and had the better overall/conference record.

But remember, we need to have a hard-on whenever the Big 12 South is mentioned.

When two teams are on the bubble like that, head to head should be the first factor that they look at. Is anyone else glad that they went back to East, Midwest, South and East instead of naming the regions by place? That irritated the crap out of me last year.

Having Bob Knight on the sideline was a major factor in tipping the scales on this one, make no mistake about it. The committee has routinely shafted Bob Huggins whenever possible, and they took the opportunity to really hit him hard since K-State was a bubble team and not a lock.

KState's non conference RPI was like 206. The NCAA looks at that very closing because the school can control it. A better overall record isn't an apples to apples comparison when the non conference RPI's are that out of wack

RPI and SOS are a load of crap where you can compare 2 teams with head to head and like opponents. If A' team plays 10 teams that are 300 in the RPI and B' team plays 10 teams with an RPI of 200 and both teams go 10-0 and are in the top 50 in the RPI themselves (as Major teams should be)
What is the difference? Switch schudules and you would have the same results.

It used to be that RPI was to help decide the differences betweem bubble teams that are really close and hard to seperate, but now it seems that it is used at all levels and to determine seeding or is it just fans on board making it seem that way?

Beating A&M twice and stealing one from Kansas is enough to punch a ticket in my book. Though I do think Kansas State should have snuck in too.

That's a good point, but if we're going by that logic, shouldn't Florida State be in?

I do think they had a legit claim too. I guess my point is that Tech deserves to be there. I think several teams got screwed by lesser teams winning their tounaments. Southern Illinois and Nevada lost and allowed Creighton and New Mexico State to get auto bids. Maybe those two teams both deserve to be there anyway, but over K-State and FSU? I'm sure there were a few others in the same vein too. I'm not calling those two out, but they were the two examples I didn't have to look up.

I heard them say that 104(?) teams in Div I had 20+ win this year which destroyed the old record of 78ish. I wouldn't want to have to pick this year.

Re: They just said that Tech had a tougher schedule then K-State.

Mostly comes down to strength of schedule. TT 39 overall, 60 non-conf. KSU 88 overall, 227 non-conf.
I have never heard the selection committee state that head to head competition or conference records play a bearing. Selection is based upon each teams entire schedule, with some added weighting for the last 10 games.
That being said there is probably some anti-Huggins bias by some NCAA members.

I honestly think K-State and Tech deserved bids. That being said, I think Tech deserved it more between the two. Any team that can beat TAMU twice and KU deserves a bid IMO. Although they lost to KSU in the big 12 tourney, they did beat KSU at KSU earlier this year.
