    Arnaud Punt

I don't know if this had been asked yet, but does anyone else think that we should have attempted a long field goal in that situation? I know Mahoney has been shaky, but he does have a strong leg. I know that it worked out great and we almost got the ball back because of that CU player playing patty cake with the ball, but we only had a one touchdown lead with some time left for a CU game tying drive. Just wondering what everyone's opinion on this was.

I think that it was a safe move to try to catch them off guard and pin them deep. If Mahoney misses that field goal they would get pretty good field position.

I also thought we should have tried a field goal.

However, in another thread, someone said that a CU player swiped at the bouncing ball like it was an incomplete pass. If we had gotten the ball back, it would have been brilliant.

No real comment, other than I was calling for the FG. But I thought what was really odd is that he kicked left-footed.

I thought it was a perfect play. Long field goals are easier to block and Brandnter would have kicked it through the end zone.

I thought it was a good call. I think a field goal there is too easy to block and return for a game tying TD. Our defense was playing great, so pining them deep and letting the defense do it's job was a good call.

    Re: Arnaud Punt

I was shocked that we didn't go for the field goal. The play before it looked like they were purposely running towards the middle of the field to set up for the field goal, and than it looked like we were trying to get better position by going in and doing some hard counts before calling a time out.

Nice wind at the back, and Mahoney has proven this year that he can make long field goals, and this one would not even have been his longest, but of course he has struggled as well. I think with the fact that you could have made this a 10 point game with about a minute left you go for the field goal, and I am still surprised we did not.

    Re: Arnaud Punt

So if the played worked out so that when he went to kick the ball, he was sacked at the same time, would that be roughing the kicker?!

    Re: Arnaud Punt

I wanted us to go for a field goal, but that was a brilliant decision. I really thought we had recovered it too.

Actually the play failed. The play called was for Arnaud to quick punt and bounce it off a CU player and recover it. It was working fine until Arnaud didn't hustle down field to get the recovery. Lucky for him the defense saved him.

    Re: Arnaud Punt

You go for a field goal there and miss, then they have a short field.

You do what we did, you catch them off guard and can pin them deeper.

I'd rather have Colorado have to go the longer field so i say GREAT call.

    Re: Arnaud Punt

"So if the played worked out so that when he went to kick the ball, he was sacked at the same time, would that be roughing the kicker?!"

I think it would be like a blocked punt if he got the kick away but it was blocked, or a turnover on downs if he was tackled before he kicked it.

but if he got the punt away cleanly then was hit after the play like the QB naturally is, would it be roughing the kicker?

    good question

    Re: Arnaud Punt

    It's a tough call...

If we weren't so shaky on special teams (FG's) I would have said kick the field goal. It's riskier to try the field goal because if you miss, CU gets better field position, or worse if it gets blocked.

I would say the Arnaud punt was probably the right thing to do (well, we won, right?) because it caught them off guard.

I thought it was a great call. Catch em off guard and try to pin em deep. In all ways it was a safer move than trying a FG for us.

I thought it was a great call especially if we could have had it bounce around a little more to run more clock off.

It hit me later that he kicked it left footed. I assume AA is right handed in everything else. My son is the same way. Right handed in everything but kicks lefty. Did it since he could walk.
