Anybody else doing the Living History Farms race this weekend?

Anybody ran this in the past? I will be running it for my first time...any suggestions?

    Re: Living History Farms race

Take the more difficult route. It's more fun.

Wear dri-fit stuff if you can.

Don't wear a bunch of heavy clothes.

Wear shoes you don't care if you ruin.

Be prepared to stop at all times during the first few miles.

The first couple miles will take forever until people get spread out.

Be a man. Scale the bales at the end.

The donuts and cider are amazing.

    Nope, never have run it.

It is a really good time and incredibly tiring. I think I've done it 5 or 6 times and even when I was is great shape, I was still dead at the end. I think everyone who is able should do it at least once.

This year the Machine Shed is providing a hot meal afterwards. I'm pretty geeked up about that. Wear crappy clothes, it will be cold, but don't dress too warmly, you will warm up quickly while running.

My sisters have done it twice and they love it. You will have a good time, but I think it is more of an event than a race.

Oh, and bring a bag to put your clothes in after the race. I normally had 2 layers on, took off the outside layer after the race and put dry shoes and socks on.

    Re: Living History Farms race

    Here's the link

Living History Farms Cross Country Race - Off Road

There's a course map on there.

7 miles (bit over 11K). Have to put that one in the memory banks for next year. Finally got myself up to 5K before the weather turned last month, and nearly died doing so. No chance of doubling that in 3 days.

    Looks pretty cool however.

I have had major medical issues this year, so no running for me, this will be the first time I have missed it in about 10 years.

Don't race for time, run to have fun.

    Take the hard route.

Don't worry about the water, find the deep spot and jump in.

Save some energy for the last mile, that frickin hill is LONG!

Layers if it is cold, I always wear shorts.

Gloves are a MUST! So is a stocking cap.

    Have fun!

Ohh and 1 last thing! Have fun!

Ohh, wear shoes you can toss in the trash when done. They will be ruined.

Oh, and don't wear spikes. Those people **** me off. Too many places it'd be really easy to catch a spike in the face.

I actually didn't ruin any of the pairs of shoes I've worn. They weren't great for running after that, but they were more than good for mowing the lawn, etc. after I threw them in the washer after the race.

I usually go through about 4 pairs of shoes per running season, I just save 1 pair of them for LHF and toss them. Of course no more marathons for me means less shoes per year.

    Re: Living History Farms race

I was talked into running last year and wasn't too excited for it but I eneded up having a really good time and I'm doing it again this year. I would also say that if you feel you are in decent shape try and move up at the start so you don't waste energy passing a lot of people that are a lot slower than you.

    Re: Living History Farms race

Looks like the weather should be much better than last year. High of 54 for Saturday.

I'll be running as a member of the Meat Rockets.

The best advice I can give is have fun, it's more of an event than a competition. Take your time and enjoy the spectacle, the funniest costume are near the back anyway.
