    Rhoads the best

per ESPN: "Rhoads leads all first-year coaches in win improvement from last season. And Snyder is tied for fifth."

Rhoads certainly deserves COY and I'm glad others are starting to see it.

    Re: Rhoads the best

I'm confused by this article. Is this comparing rookie head coaches if that is the case then Brady Hoke, Ellerson, and Snyder shouldn't even be on the list. Or is this comparing coaches in their first year with a new team? If that is the case then sadly Chizik should be included at +2.

    Re: Rhoads the best

Snyder has done a good job, but two of those wins were against D-1AA schools. We have the win against NDSU, but I think my 4 month old daughter could have coached wins against KSU's non-conference schedule.

    Rhoads= Coach of the Year!

He has a great argument for it right now, but if we win on saturday it should be indisputable.

Didn't PR use Chiz's players to win? Didn't Chiz lay a good foundation for him?

"He goes into Saturday's 1 p.m. game at Missouri having the best turnaround of the 22 rookie coaches at their respective jobs." - The Des Moines Register

The Des Moines Register also has a very well written article about CPR talking about his turnaround this year. It includes quotes from Tommy Tuberville and Johnny Majors. Tommy Tuberville seems a little bit bitter still

Actually, many of the guys that PR is winning with are Mac's recruits. Basically, PR is coaching nearly the same team that Chiz had last year.

    Chiz: 2-10 (0-8)
    PR: 6-5 (3-4)

Great story. The job this man has done/is doing is incredible.

    Re: Rhoads the best

Could be tough to beat out Mac Brown for Big 12 coach of the year with the job he's done with Texas this year but he's definitely in the conversation.

Could a person argue that this undefeated season is less impressive than his last, because he's doing this one without Gene Chizik?

Brown has done a good job, but I see Rhoads beating out Brown just because he has over achieved with the players he has at ISU. Texas was expected to contend for the National title, ISU was expected to get last in the Big 12.

I'd say it's not that impressive because UT has only beaten one really good team (OSU) and one above average team (OU). Other than that, their resume is pretty blah. Non-conf games against LA-Laf, Wyoming, UTEP, and UCF. *yawn*

    Re: Rhoads the best

I agree Paul Rhoads should win COY. He is a first time head coach, taking a team that has players that through 2 systems, didn't win more than 4 games, and has won 6, with a chance at number 7. So obviously its not all because of the players and it just shows CPR is a great coach, getting more out of every player than the previous coach (I took his name out of my vocabulary). He coaches like Mac, but it looks as he could be just as good as Mac or even better in the years to come. Just imagine Year 5, or Year 10. I may be getting ahead of myself here, but things are looking to be special in the years to come because of CPR and his staff.

Snyder is a hall of famer, coming back to a team that does include some of his own recruits, not to mention beating up on 2 1-AA teams. Talking to a few K-State fans, they are happy Snyder is back, but unhappy that it's taken Snyder to the last game to try to become bowl eligible. Also, they are extremely unhappy about playing 2 1-AA teams and are really starting to dislike the hiring of Ron Prince even more now.

So with that being said, Paul Rhoads for COY!!!

It could be, but it shouldn't be. The last time that texas had a recruiting class that wasn't in the top 20 was in...oh that's right, I don't know, because I can't find numbers that go that far back in time. ISU on the other hand is lucky to get a class in the top 75. Not that I'm complaining, at certain times, with the right coach, we seem to be able to make those players a whole lot better than the recruiting rankings would have us believe. To put it metaphorically, I'm sure that even a 5-year old would do okay in a fight against someone who had to first fight Mike Tyson. What is a real challenge is taking that person who has already been sucker punched and getting them in shape to take on Tyson. This is what CPR has done. All that Mac Brown has to do is go to work every day and make sure that his assistants have and call decent plays, if he does this the recruits and the wins will come to him. CPR on the other hand took a team that has went 5-19 over the past two years and has already made us bowl eligible. If that isn't impressive enough to get him coach of the year, I don't know what is.
