72-50 ISU over Chicago State Post Game

    Cyclones 2-0.

Ugly, Sloppy, what was going on?

Still won by 20+. That was a BAD game... but this is what depth does for you.

Brackins had what some would call an 'off' night (on offense) I don't think that was Craig Brackins in the 21 uniform. He'll bounce back because that's the attitude that makes Craig a winner. Oh... and 6 (maybe more?) blocks by Craig. So the night wasn't a complete loss.

Christopherson is probably who I give the Offensive game ball to.

Gilstrap was a monster on the boards (quite a few off his own shot though). Also the biggest Dunk in a LONG time!

JVB comfortable behind the 3 (3 for 3 I think?) Lucca sold from 3 as well.

Colvin gets to the rim and draws the foul a LOT. However... didn't really finish any of them for a 3 point opportunity. I'd like to see him work on that.

Overall good defensive effort by everyone.

Believe it or not... I kinda wanted to see Boozer shoot a little bit. I thought he was in good position a few times but didn't get the kickout or pass.

Ham... great start and a fairly solid game.

Anyway... I'm sure this game will give the coaches a lot to work with.

Biggest question... was this sloppy play a result of 2 games in 3 days? I'm slightly worried for Drake if that's the case.

    P.S. I miss Dendy.

Sloppy play. Brackins and Gilstrap a combined 4-23 from FG as opposed to 11-22 the game before.Still won by 22 though. In the last few years, we could have very easily lost this game. Happy about that, but not about our offensive play. I think it was a fluke though considering what i've seen so far. Hope I'm correct on that assumption.

Re: 72-50 ISU over Chicago State Post Game

Love the fact that we have three serious 3 pt threats (Lucca, Scot, JVB). If one is "off" hopefully the other(s) are on. If more than one is on, we can sub one for the other (Lucca - Scot), or, have more than one threat on the floor.

Mix in Craig, and some other more dynamic players, and we should be able to "survive" some games - such that we did tonight.

They really need to work on ball control and passing. This has been killing them. Otherwise I think shot selection is decent, but it just wasnt falling.

i can only comment based on stats. There were two things that could have improved. First was field goal shooting, and the second was rebounding. It seemed like Chi St. got a lot of rebounds. It is encouraging that we had shot I believe under 40% and still scored 72 points.

Re: 72-50 ISU over Chicago State Post Game

It was a sloppy game. Sloppy passes. Sloppy dribbling. Bad shot selection. BUT, we won by a comfortable margin thanks to tenacious defense the entire game.

The dunk by Gilstrap was amazing. He was right on top of a guy when we threw down.

Gilstrap plays a bit out of control on the offensive end. He is a great rebounder.

Craig really struggled to score tonight. I don't expect to see many nights like that from him.

This is what interests me the most. With the "top scorers" having a rough night, the others stepped right in. This will pay huge dividends down the road.

Another interesting little fact is that no one on the team was in double figures until mid way through the second half and I think it may have Christopherson or JVB who was first to break double digits. The offense was evenly spread over many players.

Christopherson is huge upgrade as a bench option over last year. He can really do it all. He has an awesome floater like Stinson had that I've seen him use a couple times now and he hasn't missed.

We looked realllllllllllllllly tired. Not sure if Mac ran 'em to death yesterday in practice, or if we just all looked sluggish, but nothing was crisp, and free throws were atrocious.

This game got scheduled here, because of the Duke game, to make that work we needed to move the NDSU game and re-arrange the Chicago State. They were tired and no way would Mac have done this, if the prize for this was not a chance to play Duke in Chicago....

    Scott is fantastic.

Yeah they looked a little sluggish. They are playing a back 2 back stretch here. I think this will be their down game. They'll bounce back. They also pushed the ball hard tonight and made quite a few mistakes. Their hussle may be draining a bit as well. These non conference games should condition them well.

Remember when we had the Stinson team with a shallow bench? Those guys were super conditioned by conference time and they were all over the place.

Re: 72-50 ISU over Chicago State Post Game

this team has a ton of potential even with a bad offensive game we put up 72... last fewyears that's been a good shooting night. d was solid, gilstrap posterized that guy, overal a good weekend for the cyclones!

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but Garrett had 5 assists, no TO. No turnovers yet this year.
