    ISUs QB position

i was just thinking of this.. When is the last time we could be this excited about depth at QB.. Bret Meyer, Austen Arnaud, Phillip Bates.. all outstanding students and athletes. If you ask me, its a hell of a lineup.. however i hear talk of Arnaud putting on weight and moving to defense, but thats just in the rumor mill right now

I think our offense will be back under the leadership of senior Bret Meyer. I can't wait to see Todd Blythe and Bret Meyer make the exciting plays led by a GOOD GAME DAY coach!

    Re: ISUs QB position

I was excited when Meyer was a freshman and we had a great QB in Flynn. Of course Flynns first year he was running for his life like Meyer was last season, so people were kinda down on him then too.

I hope that the offensive line can give whatever quarterback who plays enough time to actually complete passes. That seemed to be a problem last year, and almost all of the line graduated.

    Re: ISUs QB position

exactly I don't care who the one throughing the ball is, we needs a offensive line that can hold it's own. I don't think we have really had one in the last 5 years at all.

Makes you kinda want to think about what happened 5 years ago that made it fall apart.

If Meyer looks as smooth as 2 years ago, we will be satisfied.

Anybody know anything about the offense??? Nice to see them spread it out and throw shorter routes. Didn't so much like the routes run last year.

We are not Iowa, where their #2 guy is always the best guy on the team.

Meyer sucks. Arnaud should start. Bates should play offensive tackle.

    Re: ISUs QB position

Bates and Arnaud are such great athletes, it would be hard to keep one of them on the sidelines when Meyer is gone. I would actually love to see one of them switch to D or WR. With their size and speed, they could play about anywhere.

I heard Meyer is moving to kicker, Arnaud to defensenive end, Bates will be the new wide receiver's coach, and Josh Greibahn will start at quarterback...

    Re: ISUs QB position

If Meyer has more than .6 seconds to throw the ball, receivers are healthy we should be decent. If we can have great Kick offs and Place Kicking we might even be a suprise team. I think Shaggy will be good this year, but I hope this coaching staff really gets it done at that postition and recruits it well the next few years.

also, don't underestimate the value of decent play calling.

If there is ever a quarter in which we don't throw towards Blythe, or a series in which we don't check him off as our "A" route, I will be extremely surprised and disappointed.

Great comment. A lot of people seem to be just commenting on our new players, which obviously will help. But I'm sure we won't be running QB draws on 3rd and 12 with Chiz at the helm. We won't have games where we throw only 3 passes to Blythe. I'm excited to see the rumored 5 wide receiver sets and whatever else Chiz has to bring. FADE TO BLYTHE! Plus I believe that with Chiz play calling with JBass at RB and with a decent OL, Chiz will vary the 5 wideouts and running it up the gut.....decent/good play calling is the key to success this year.....
