    It was never ISU

If we were, he would have commited awhile ago to improve our recruiting class. I truly believe that now. I know it's hindsight 20/20, but he has always wanted to win a Championship. Even with Brackins and Gilstrap back next year, we needed another guy or two in this class with HB.

Good for HB for getting what he wanted, and taking the next big step in his life. But like LaFrentz, Collison and Hinrich, I will never follow his career.

I'm just asking if we got strung along because he felt an obligation to keep us in it? He doesn't have to worry about those other schools pulling in championship caliber recruits. We are not there yet.

    Re: It was never ISU

I remember HB mentioning that UCLA does a great job of "marketing" their players. IMO, HB did a great job of marketing himself. He had the west coast (UCLA), midwest (KU, ISU), south (OU) and the east (UNC, Duke) all interested.

I agree. The kid was setting himself up to make millions before he ever played an NBA game. It's no coincidence his favorite book is Warren Buffet's.

The whole marketing thing tends to happen by itself when you're the best player in the country

Um....We've never been there, nor will we probably ever. We need to take the recruits we can get to Ames and hopefully their chemistry and work effort put them in a position to develop into a championship (ala 1999).

    Re: It was never ISU

I agree that looking back on it, we were never seriously in it. Just the fact that he didn't take an official says a lot. Obviously he was looking for a big name program, and a school where he felt he would win a championship.

Congrats and good luck to him...........in the pros.
