    ESPN was right...

Way back in 2001 when we laid an egg big-time by losing to a 15-seed in the NCAA Tournament. ESPN predicted that it could take decades for ISU MBB to recover from something like that, that none of the only 2 or 3 other teams that also lost to a 15-seed had yet to recover at that point. Looks like they were right. We've only been to the NCAA's once since then, and then only to the second round. We've had more losing seasons than winning seasons since then, and we just lost a fantastic player out of our own back yard.

That's a bunch of BS. Michigan State lost to a 15 seed and they won a NC less than 5 years later. Our problem is, we aren't Michigan State.

Yeah, that loss was a program killer, no doubt. I remember having nearly the same thought as I watched in agony that night.

And ESPN was also right in saying that it was between UNC and Duke. ISU was never in the picture.

Too bad hindsight is so dang good.

Shouldn't have fired Eustachy. In hindsight, we were on the cusp of some good things when that happened. Imagine that really good core of players that Morgan had, with the discipline of Eustachy coaching.

    Oh, well...

I'm an Iowa State fan... not a Harrison Barnes fan. We'll move on and achieve anyway.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

Eustachy shouldn't have gone partying with his students. ISU was right in getting rid of him.

Here we go again. LE vs WM vs GM. LE was the greatest. But he was losing his mind, and driving himself, his team and his family crazy day by day.

Decades? lol...decades is really pushing it. Yeah it put us down but "decades" is so laughable.

Michigan State also has never lost to a 15 seed to whoever said that. The only 2 seeds to lose to a 15 seed besides ISU have been Syracuse, Arizona, and South Carolina. If you're going to pick anything, pick Arizona because they lost to Santa Clara in 1993 and a few years later they won the national championship.

No, we were not! In his last season we went 5-11 in the Big 12 and lost in Hilton to an Iowa team that we had beat in the regular season in the NIT. We had players like Chris Alexander, Tommie King, and a whole starting line-up of other recruits who stayed on campus long enough for maybe a couple of cups of coffee before being kicked off the team or leaving on their own. People always love to think about how great we could have been with Blaylock and Stinson playing for Eustachy with Morgan continuing to recruit great players, but IMO it's just as likely that CS and WB would have left in the middle of their freshmen seasons because they would have hated playing for LE.

Yeah, he had 1 and almost 2 great seasons when he was here, but this revisionist history about LE is innaccurate and silly, and as you can tell, drives me up the wall.

ESPN is one big collection of myopic, east coast loving ****weeds.

And further, HB coming to ISU surely would have done wonders for our time frames, but I fully believe that Coach Mac has us back on track this year, and recruiting will only continue to get better.

    Re: ESPN was right...

I loathe ESPN. I loathe the way Dukie V worships at the feet of his beloved ACC and snake oil salesmen like John Calipari. Leave it to the likes of Dukie V and the Final Four would consist of UNC, Duke, Kentucky, and UCLA every year.

One thing that this whole episode illustrates for me is that those who claim college athletics represent a purer form of competition than the pros are full of it. The pros are just more honest and upfront in paying their people.
