We had every opportunity to get HB and failed

Our play on the basketball court the past three years is a huge reason Barnes didn't come to ISU. He kept waiting for ISU to show him something, ANYTHING to help him choose ISU. Three losing seasons in a row aren't going to land you the top recruit in the nation no matter where he is from. He also specifically mentioned he is going to UNC because of their style of play. He wants to run up and down the court. ISU does not offer that in McDermott's current system. HB is mature beyond his years, he has it all planned out. He wants to win a championship on every level. High School, College, and Pro. At ISU it would have been a major longshot to win a National title. At UNC he has a chance to win multiple titles. I wanted him to come to ISU more than anyone. ISU and McDermott have no one to blame but themselves for not landing Barnes.

I think the mods need to lock every thread and forum except for the "UNC it is" thread.

All threads should be merged into the one. It is going to be one long weekend of meltdowns and it needs to be contained. Plus it could rival the plane on a treadmill thread for most posts. God I hope we beat CU tomorrow.

    Agreed.

It was bad timing. The program is about as down as it's been in the last 20 years. I truly believe Barnes wanted to be a Cyclone but the performance on the court the last few years didn't allow him to make that decision.

    From Coach Mc on twitter:
HB is a great kid....I wish him well. I am disappointed just like our fans. Time to focus on a group of guys that love Iowa State!

Yeah, limit it to one thread. Everyone doesn't need their own personal temper tantrum thread.

While I think the turn-over at the HC position did not help ISUs cause we were a long shot out of the gate. There is one HB every once in a while and the fact that he gave ISU a shot at all is a testament to our staff. Not landing him is not.

I think a certain ex-AD has more blame than anyone on our current staff.

actually I think the reason Barnes went with UNC is because of their basketball program, and they're great academics. I honestly think he wanted to pick Iowa State, but knew that UNC was the better choice.

An ISU win, KSU loss, and perhaps some well placed leaks (whether true or not) about KSU not being eligible for the Big 12 title game could contain any meltdown pretty well...

I agree with some of this. In my lifetime, the last three years have been the worst 3 consecutive years in ISU basketball (from 1983 on). Wipe out the cupcake non-conference games from our schedule the last three years and we would only have won a few games.

Still, I'm hopeful for this year and will always be a Cyclone. Go State!! I hope years 4, 5, 6 and beyond are extremely successful ones for McDermott. We need some Cyclone good vibrations.

I respect his decision to go to UNC. Nothing I can do about it now or before. However I wish he would just leave town tonight. Go. Leave. See Ya. Dont bother shutting the door, I'll get it for ya.
