    Can Jeter Catch Pete Rose

Derek Jeter currently has 2747 hits at age 35.

At the end of his age 35 season Pete Rose had 2762. He then played another 10 years and finished with 4256.

At 200 hits per season Jeter would have to play 8 more years to break Rose's record. I think it would be a real long shot. Not that many players keep their skills that far after age 40, plus I'm not sure Jeter would attempt to hang around that long just to break a record.

I don't see it happening. Not that he can't get 200 per season, but I don't think there's any way he plays another 10 years.

Didn't Jeter just mention about playing another 5 years?

Re: Can Jeter Catch Pete Rose

That is a great question for a baseball discussion! I have tons of respect for Jeter but I hate the Yankees! As a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's...I LOVED Pete Rose the player! Turns out the non-player Pete Rose has some major issues! For some reason...I hope that Rose keeps that record for a long long time! I can't imagine a player getting that many hits in the modern era. But then again...I never though Cal Ripken would get the consecutive games played mark either...

Could Jeter get there? Could...but it won't be easy!

As a Yankee fan, I hope Jeter can play another 10 years, but i can't imagine that. That is an incredible feat by Rose.....I guess I didn't realize how long he played.

Re: Can Jeter Catch Pete Rose

It's crazy to think Rose had ~1500 hits AFTER age 35. I didn't know that.
