    Let's say...

...you are in HB's shoes: super athletic, very intelligent, grew up in Ames, Iowa, and would be welcomed at any college in the country. Where do you go?

I would have a hard time passing up Duke. They are on par with Yale and Harvard academically, a national championship is not out of the possibilities with them, and (like him or not) Coach K is a legend who just spent a summer coaching LeBron and Kobe to Olympic gold. But Duke would be my third choice.

My number 2 choice would be ISU. I grew up in Ames and I love the Cyclones. They have solid people (coaching staff, players, professors, and fans). I would be remembered in Ames as one of the all-time greats. And I'd be set up for life if I wanted to open just about any kind of business there later in life. The problem is that after living in Ames for 18 years I would want to go exploring.

Which brings me to my 1st choice: Stanford. They have a solid sports department, academics at Duke/Ivy league level, nobel prize winners for lectureres, olympic athletes in every-third doorm room, the weather is absolutely amazing, and to top it off, hot chicks everywhere.

    Your thoughts?

I've heard the ladies at Stanford are subpar. I have two fraternity brothers from ISU that went to grad school there and they both said girls at ISU are way better...

    Re: Let's say...

Honestly, I would rather be a legend at ISU then just another name on the wall at Duke/UNC/Kansas, but I really wouldn't blame someone for wanting to go to the "best of the best".

I just look at it that he could be "the man" at ISU, like not just some people's favorite, but literally the person that EVER IOWAN is proud of and looks up to. He could be soooo much more than another all-american to attend Duke....

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

    Re: Let's say...

It kinda depends on what you want. Let's say that you planned on going to ISU all along. Why wouldn't you do exactly what HB is doing? By not declaring you can have a blast making all of your official visits. Also, by looking at those schools you can get your name out there and really improve your recruiting rating which will help your NBA stock down the road. Do you think if he had committed to ISU last year that he would be the #1 recruit in the nation? I didn't think so either.

What if...Brackins was enjoying the college experience so much he told HB he would stay another year? Any chance at a NC?

    Re: Let's say...

UNC and ISU wouldn't even be an after thought.

I'd want to further market myself to the NBA by playing for a winner with a high powered offense and a hall of fame coach. I also would not want to let an opportunity to go anywhere in country slip through my hands so I could stay in freakin Ames, Iowa. I'd also take out the biggest freaking insurance policy sports has ever seen.

    Re: Let's say...

Yeah, because it hurt Beasley so much to go to K-State and play for what was basically an assistant coach....

In MBB, it doesn't really matter where you go, the NBA will find you if you are good.

This is a great post, but I doubt "recruiting rating" helps your NBA stock. Those scouts make a lot of money evaluating talent regardless of how well-known it is.
That said, I think your scenario is awesome.
