    Help me buy a netbook!

I'm in the market for a netbook, but don't really know where to look. So instead, I'm going to throw out my wishlist, and hope you folks have some suggestions!

**10-inch screen. My hands are too big for anything smaller.
**802.11n wireless. Netbooks live off Wifi.
**Built-in Bluetooth. I have a travel mouse I want to use without a USB dongle.
**1.3MP camera minimum. 2.0MP would be nice, but I haven't seen many of those.
**Mouse buttons UNDER the trackpad, not to the left/right. I can't figure out how those are usable.
**SD card reader. I don't care if it reads other cards or not.
**HDMI would be nice, if paired with a processor that can handle it. Not necessary though.

    Things I haven't decided about:
**SSD versus regular HDD. I generally know the dis/advantages of both. Thoughts?
**CPU/GPU type and speed. I don't know jack squat about the different processor lines and their implications. Hoping to avoid the same old Atom N270/N280-GMA 950 combination that we have seen since last year. Anything newer/better?
**Battery size. I see everything from 3 to 12 cells out there, especially 4 and 6. This is obviously tied to the hard drive and processor questions. I need pretty decent battery life, since I'll likely use this all day in places with no power outlets, but I don't want an underpowered computer. Physical size is also a consideration. What works best for you?

This machine will mostly be used for school-day purposes, something I can throw in my bag without thinking about it. It won't be a primary "work" machine at all. I have a great desktop at home, and I will get a laptop by next summer for when I need to travel with a 'real' computer. This netbook fits into a different niche in my needs. I expect to do quite a bit of typing on it; stuff that can't wait until I get home at night- email, Word/Google documents, and instant messaging. Also video playback- YouTube and Hulu, I assume. I may rip a movie or two and put it on there, if I can. Probably won't do too much serious audio playback, but I'd like halfway decent speakers.

Tell me what you think, what you have, or what you wish you had. Let me know if you have any other questions for me. Thanks for your help, folks!

I have the Dell Mini 10v. I have no beef with it for what it is. Windows 7 seems to run alot better than XP on it. I would definitely max out the memory if you could. SSD isnt really necessary unless you plan to drop this thing a ton. I wouldnt mess with the cost, put the money toward other components.

I was in the market for a Netbook, but backed off when I learned the RAM is barely sufficient to keep up with the buffer rate for loading stuff like YouTube and CloneZone.

    Has that improved any?

Its not awesome by any means, but it works ok. If you can get a dual core somewhere, that would probably help immensely.

Exactly, but then it seemed to pay that price I might as well get a used laptop

Probably. I bought my netbook to help with configuring things in network closets. Its portable enough and powerful enough to do my everyday tasks. I play full length movies on it without a hitch though and take it with me when I travel to play them.

Which edition of 7 are you running? I've been thinking about trying this but wasn't sure which one to use on my Dell Mini.

I have had both ultimate and pro on there. It currently runs pro, but both are about the same.

Bump. Totally forgot to mention a built-in SD card reader. Half the reason for the netbook would be so I can upload pictures off my camera's memory card while on the go.

Go to Tech Cyte in the bookstore in the mornings. Ask for a guy named Andrew. He's our netbook guy. He should be able to help you out.

I've checked out the ones there. They're nice, but (if I recall correctly) more expensive than what I can find online. All the same, if you still think I should stop in, I will.

If nothing else, Andrew is the guy there who knows the netbooks. He would at least be able to guide you into something you'll like. I know a lot of people buy the Acer AspireOne and the Asus Eee PC, but he knows which ones are better than others, and all that stuff.
