Do we have a shot at Adrian Golden?

I mean really have a shot. This kid is doing great in high school and has some major teams looking at him. We aren't recruiting very many RBs this year, and for good reason, but I'm just wondering if we get an RBs this year.

I think we have a shot at him. The question to ask is, why doesn't such a highly touted recruit show any offers so far? He just transfered to his new school, but it is obvious that programs know he is there and doing good things on the field. Is there a dubious reason why he transfered? Is he a risk to not qualify?
I am thinking the staff is probably keeping an eye on him. If they can't get any of their current RB offers to bite, they may take a chance on Golden, hoping he will make it to campus.

I just have a feeling that this kid is going to end up at a JuCo and we will be talking about him again in a few years coming out of Gulf Coast CC.

Re: Do we have a shot at Adrian Golden?

So....the little bit I know about the situation is this....

The kid can run, but the lack of collegiate interest in Golden might be related to three simple things: Grades, test scores and character? Again, the kid can run, but he's done that at three different schools. Why? Sounds like he's trying to run from other problems as well--can anyone say eligibility issues?

I was able to scrounge up some articles & video from the St. Pete Times:

Video - Video profile: Adrian Golden | Home Team | Tampabay.com

Article from early in the season -

Interest picking up for Adrian Golden | Home Team | Tampabay.com

    Article on ISU's interest -

Iowa State interested in Adrian Golden | Home Team | Tampabay.com

Article on his visit to Miami (OH) -

Adrian Golden to attend Miami-OU game as Hurricanes? guest | Home Team | Tampabay.com

Excerpt of a wrap-up after his debut -

Offensive player of the week Adrian Golden, Tarpon Springs
The Spongers' running back had a quite a debut with 11 touches for 285 all-purpose yards (133 rushing, 59 receiving and 83 in returns) against rival Palm Harbor University. And he scored in a variety of ways with touchdowns on a run, reception and kickoff return. (FYI - current recruit Mike Douglas from Largo was the Defensive Player of the Week)

Again, the kid is a legit back but I would venture to guess (and that's all it is, a guess) from the things the media has reported down here, his transfer reason remain a mystery but might have something to do w/not only grades but possibly his character. Hopefully I'm wrong but you never can be too sure.

Who knows, we took a chance on Troy Davis & he seemed to work out alright. Maybe this could be a similar situation.

This link is to a story that explains why Adrian Golden has attended 4 high schools in 4 years. Gives a little perspective.

What is a Sponger? Google had several definitons, none applying to Football. I doubt it has anything to do with surfing or cleaning with sponges.

After reading that I hope that Iowa State can be the school to give him a chance. Sounds like he is trying to get his life turned around and be the best student and football player he can be.

    Lets go get him.

Apparently they harvest some of "the worlds finest sponges" in Tarpon Springs. I guess the mascot iss an omage to the local economy.

I think he would be worth taking a shot on. I am honestly surprised that noone else has offered him yet. There has to be some school out there willing to gamble on him.

I wonder what the altercations in his past involved. A lot of kids get into fights, like they said. There must have been more to those fights I think, for D1 schools to ignore his talent.

Yes Tarpon is full of sponge sellers. Every merchant has some form or another. Its really a neat place if you ever get a chance to go. Great places to eat as well.

But seriously, Barnes is going to be a cyclone, right?
