    Cowboys on a roll?

Maybe, but I still just am having a tough time believing in this team...constantly waiting for the bottom to fall out. Romo certainly is a much smarter QB now and I think that beatdown at the end of last year taught him something.

The team is generally easy to like though, with guys like Austin playing huge roles. Another UFA is making an impact (Igor Olshansky). Love Ratliff every time he gets a sack.

I'm just not sure how much longer the triple monster at running back will remain happy with their roles. Roy started to talk a bit last week about not seeing the football, nothing huge, but that certainly could boil over.

Nice to be leading the East right now - but even with the Giants comically collapsing - I still feel very, very nervous. I was very encouraged by the way Dallas won last night, not allowing that Eagles offense to rip 'em up. Philly has a lot of young talent on offense and were really held in check most of the game.

A trip up to an ailing Green Bay could be great for confidence (sacking the hell out of Mr. HoldOntoTheBallForever) or the Packers get right against Dallas and expose some issues.

What boggles my mind is that Wade Phillips and Norv Turner are having success as head coaches. I have always thought they are great coordinators and horrible head coaches.

I can't really say either are "having success". I guess it depends on how a person defines success. For Kansas City, Detroit, etc - what Wade and Norv are doing would be considered success.

But for places like Dallas or teams like San Diego that have lots of talent - it's not success. The Cowboys have been flopping late in the season and the Chargers can't get over the hump.

I'm hoping that if Dallas does not live up to potential (deep playoff run), Wade is shown the door (he could gladly run the defense though). Sadly, I'm not sure it will happen because Jerry loves his cuddly puppet.

They have a lot of talent on both teams. IMO both coaches are trying to find ways to keep their team from winning. Kind of like Brad Childress. Did you see Turner call for a WR reverse on 3rd and 5 with 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter yesterday?

Ugh. What a horrid call that was. I thought for sure it was going to be the reason they'd let the Giants win. Fortunately Rivers executed a fantastic game winning drive, making a couple brilliant throws.

    Re: Cowboys on a roll?

Idk what to think about Dallas, I am glad we're at the top of the division and better than that, the eagles are in 2nd, not NY. I still feel NY is better than philly overall despite their 4 game skid. I never understand how Dallas is a pass to run the ball team. I know they love to get a lead in the 4th quarter and just let that huge line and Barber run it down your throat, but idk why they don't try to establish the run earlier with 3 very capable backs. Seems like Romo and Co. Come out throwing every game. Other than his one miscommunication pick last night, Romo has been amazing lately. Let's see what happens come December tho. I know those feelings of waiting for a fallout 22, with Dallas' recent history what else do you expect to feel tho? Although it does feel good to be back at #1 again!

    Re: Cowboys on a roll?

Romo's INT was an inaccurate pass. I was also ticked Witten didn't make an attempt to knock the ball down. It's hard to tell from the angle, but it looked like he could have. Not Witten like at all.

Dallas did try to run early some, it just wasn't there. Best running plays early in the game were Choice in the "wildcat". Which is odd, because it's pretty much guaranteed to be a run. I loved how after the third one that went for about 10 yards (with the first couple being just as effective) the camera showed the Philly DC saying "that's the third time they have run the same play!".

Stupid penalties need to stop though. Fortunately, Dallas immediately overcame nearly every self-inflicted setback last night. Won't continue to happen.

I'm still waiting for Bennett to show up. Having another tight end that can be a weapon in the passing game would be great. Looks the part and acts like it, when we see him - not sure what is holding him back - especially after a great camp and preseason.

This team is starting to figure out what they are, the best running team in the league. I think this has benefitted Romo, he was very prone to mistakes the last couple of years because of the amount of pressure on him.

    Re: Cowboys on a roll?

If they win at Green Bay this weekend they will go 9-2 to start with Washington and Oakland coming to Dtown in the next two games. That would be huge, considering the rough schedule to finish.

See, that's where I get worried. These team loves to have a great start and then fall asleep against teams they should dominate in late November and December. The only thing giving me good hope is, Dallas didn't start great this year and the early struggles may have woke them up.

But I certainly don't take either of those games as gimmies. Should win 'em by double figures, yes. But one is a rivalry game and the other - Oakland beat Philly and IMO - can play with most teams if they're clicking.

Considering the way the Packers have been playing, I don't think that's much of an if. With that d-line against Aaron (because let's face it, he may as well be out there by himself), it could be a long afternoon.

He holds onto the ball way too long, regardless of what his line looks like. Peter King was noting such in his column. Aaron has taken 37 sacks on the season. 37! And we're just at the halfway point. That line is bad, yes. But he's gotta know that and either get rid of the ball OOB or check it down. Hell, throw it at someone's feet!

The Colts offensive line is not perceived to be much better. Now, Aaron isn't half the QB P.Manning is, even though I know some Packer fans won't agree. But Manning has taken 7 sacks all season long. I'd contend the cast of receivers Aaron has to throw to are a bit better than Manning has, when looking at experience and production.

Aaron has to absolutely start learning to hit the hot read and/or throw the thing away. Otherwise the Packers will continue to head downhill and his shelf life will be rather short.

I wasn't a fan with the play calling. Barber wasn't effective early on, should've gone with more Felix & Choice.

And how effective was Felix carrying the ball? I'm a huge fan of his and he has big play potential - but the Eagles were swallowing him up.

He only had 2 carries in the 1st half. That's just horrible, no way you can determine effectiveness off of 2 carries. Also, the wildcat was working, why did it only get ran 3 times in the 1st half and then never again?
