Attendance will be challenging for ISU/OSU

My sister in law works in an ag service business and dropped off 4 tickets to the game today for us yesterday (Friday). Their offices have a couple dozen tickets at various locations around the state and the farmers that they usually give them to didn't have time to go to the game. After a many weeks of too wet weather, this week of dry weather will have the combines runninng full steam today.

Now, I know that "The Mouth" (Marty) and others will say that taking care of harvest isn't a valid excuse for not going to the game, but with hundreds of thousands of dollars of potential income sitting out in the field exposed to the elements and at risk for geing damaged or dropped to the ground, I can't blame farmers for taking care of business.

I certainly wouldn't blame a farmer for not going. They're way behind, and you can't take chances with that. Still should be plenty of people at the game I would think.

I agree, they have such a small window of time to get their harvest in. Just one of the struggles a team has that is in a agricultural based state.

Income vs entertainment, no problems from me if a few people have too miss the game to get their crops out, I'm just glad I'm not one of them, time to start packing up the ride. Go Cyclones!!

We had two great tickets we offered to a farming couple and they just couldn't do it even though they really wanted to go. When your livelihood is at stake there are a lot more important things than a football game.

That said I could not be more excited about the game today.

It is good to hear that others can understand. The little bit that I have listened to Marty, I have heard him comment that farming isn't a valid reason for not having more people at the game. Frankly, that thinking just pisses me off. As the agriculture college for the state of Iowa, it is logical that a higher percentage of ISU fans are farmers. Being a farmer doesn't always allow for taking time off on a given fall Saturday to go enjoy a game.

It is easy for Marty to sit behind his microphone and critisize people that actually work for a living. I doubt, however, that he would be at a football game if he had his whole years income at risk like most of the farmers do this year.

Re: Attendance will be challenging for ISU/OSU

I'd like to see the breakdown of people today that aren't able to attend the game due to fall harvest at Iowa State and at Iowa. It's a nice excuse for us, but I know as many friends (actaully more once you get an hour from Ames) out in combines right now that cheer for Iowa as I do ISU. I'm not worried about attendance today. I'm sure sales have been brisk this week, and I expect a huge walk-up crowd with the weather being Septemberish today. Hell, golf might keep more people away than farming at every shool playing ball in Iowa today.

I'd probably go home and help with our farming operation if the call came that they needed help. Fortunately for me, we seem to have enough help to allow me to stay in Ames this weekend and watch some football.

But we are definitely way behind.

We all know that Marty is a responsible person that takes care of his job first. By doing things like dropping as many F-bombs in a minute on live radio.

Marty only says over-the-top things to purposley **** off Cyclone fans so we'll talk about him on the best message board in the state. Please don't talk about him.

Hey, my uncle and two cousins have to miss the game because they are in the field all day today.

Re: Attendance will be challenging for ISU/OSU

All of that has been said is true but I honestly think Marty has an ax to grind against Cyclone fans for how we reacted about his firing from KXNO. I've only heard his show like 2 times since he started at 1700 and both times he's gone out of his way to rip ISU. I honestly feel a little bad for him because he seems like a man in his 50s who cannot control his emotions.

I respect that farmers can't make it, however there are other agricultural related schools/fans which still sell out, it's up to everyone else to step it up i guess.

Soybeans done. Drying bins full. I'll be there. Maybe even stay for the VB game afterwards. But if I had a place to put corn today......
