    Bowl selection....

So I am not sure if this has been discussed yet....

Currently there are 10 Big XII teams with 5 wins or more. This could leave quite a few teams with similar or the same conference and overall records to be picked from come bowl selection time. My question is if there is a group of teams with the same record as ISU does things like the postgame celebration video from the Nebraska game and CPR's classic statement make a difference in the eyes of a bowl selection committee to pick us ahead of schools like Nebraska, Kansas, or Missouri?

Obviously we would merit a look based on our results but could those little extras that have been so highly publicized give us an edge?

$$ is what the bowls will care about. How many fans will you bring, and what kind of TV audience.

I am sure JP will do what he can if we finish 6-6 and are thrown in the pot with teams such as Northwestern, Kansas State, KU, etc

I remember when KU got selected for the BCS over MU despite MU's North Division championship. One of the deciding factors was KU being willing to step up and guarantee a larger block of school ticket sales. I imagine it will come down to back room deals like this, not videos.

KSU needs 2 more wins(7 total) since to of their non-conference wins were (div II)sic.

I understand that but I was just wondering if any of that publicity and the attention it was getting nationally could make ISU a more attractive option then say Kansas or Missouri whose fanbases may not be excited about the level of bowl game they are going to be looking at come the end of the season? I would hate to think based on the number of Big XII bowl tie ins that ISU could be bowl eligible and get the shaft for another school with more recent success but whose fan base wouldn't really give a crap about playing in a mid level bowl.

Yes it will make us more attractive. Bowls are a business and this year we have shown to have an enthusiastic team and coach that is bringing out the best in fans.

We will go to a bowl over a 6-6 Northwestern and obviously over a 6-6 K-State. Same goes for Purdue or teams similar to ours. We have probably the best fan base for a consistent .500, or below, team in the country.

My biggest worry is a 7-5 team beating us out for a bowl if we only finish 6-6.

    Re: Bowl selection....

Nebraska will trump every team from the North if they have the same record unfortunately because of their fans/history

I have to think the "turnaround" story ISU would offer will be a help as well. People always like these kind of stories.

I think we are saying the same thing, just measuring it differently. ISU has the "pent-up" demand of not going to a bowl since 2005, the "feel-good" story of Iowa native CPR, etc. KSU will have similar "return of Bill Snyder" feel good story.

MU and KU might view 6-6 or 7-5 as a disappointing year.

My point is that those aspects translate into money. I really can't guess at how KU and MU fanbase might travel relative to ISU if the scenarios above play out. I imagine we would be seen better than KU. If they lose to their in-state rival this weekend, probably takes a lot of wind from their sails.

It all won't matter when we upset OKSTATE tomorrow and then beat Colorado for win number 7.

I haven't watched Okie State this year but I hope that their run defense sucks.

There will be a record set tomorrow. As robinson will pass his coach for the OSU's all time passing leader. That being said I really hope ISU spoils that with a W

Bowls are required to select 7-5 teams over 6-6 teams for at-large bids.

Unfortunately I don't think we go if we end up 6-6. as one of those wins was against NDSTATE even though it counts.

First it's going to get us recruits, now it's going to get us into a bowl game. When is this madness going to stop?

If anybody thinks bowl selection is about anything other than who travels best and who is going to draw a TV audience you're crazy. Thinking some you tube sensation that no one outside of ISU will remember in 12 months is going to get us a bowl bid over Nebraska is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
