    Motorola Droid on Verizon

Anyone get one today? I'm guessing Verizon stores opened early today to accommodate the launch?

Reviews for the most part are positive. Some call it the best phone on Verizon, some are calling it "non even close to being an iPhone killer"

Personally, I couldn't care less about an iPhone. I can't even dream of them until it comes to Verizon, if that ever happens. I really like my iTouch if that matters...

I think I want the Droid though. It's sure got some great features and Android 2.0 looks to be solid.

Not happy about the lack of certain multi-touch features though. I imagine since the hardware does support it, the functionality will eventually come out right?

I might have to sneak out to a store to test one of these bad boys out...the nerd in me is excited!

I somehow managed to not hear about this until now. Are you sure this is the Droid you're looking for?

    Re: Motorola Droid on Verizon

I have seen a little bit about this, interesting for people already on Verizon but not sure that it would be enough to convince me to switch from Sprint and the Palm Pre to Verizon, especially since Verizon is raising their early termination fees. I'm interested in checking out the HTC Hero, and supposed to be a pretty major software update for the Pre coming out this month too.

Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating a verizon store is approximately three thousand, seven hundred and twenty to one!

I think I need this phone just for the nerdy possibilities.

I'm in the same boat as you Chad. I'm on Sprint and ready to upgrade. I was originally in the Palm Pre camp, but after seeing the HTC Hero I am on the fence. The new Sense UI overlay that HTC has on top of the Android OS looks really nice, and the Hero hardware seems really well put together.

What are your thoughts on the Pre so far?

    Re: Motorola Droid on Verizon

HTC has been very, very good to me as far as performance and reliability. I like the idea of an open platform (I hate the limitations of ActiveSync), but I've now got a nice Windows Mobile app collection compiled. I would guess I could find similar apps for Android. Sprint has been good to me as well.

    Re: Motorola Droid on Verizon

I have "heard" that the Hero can be a little bit sluggish, but supposedly that happens when a user loads up on all kinds of widgets so it's probably self-inflicted. Definitely going to a Sprint store to play with one soon. HTC does a really nice job on hardware and in adding their own overlays (I had an HTC Touch Pro for awhile), but I think I'm going to stick with the Pre for now, and I'm really trying to limit myself to devices where one company handles both hardware and software. I'm sure they farm out or sub-contract a lot of the work, but in my experience mobile devices that have software/hardware from the same company are always a little bit better in terms of responsiveness, overall user experience. As I mentioned in my previous post Palm is supposed to be coming out with an update, WebOS 1.3.1 I think, and supposedely it addresses overall performance. My plan right now is to wait for that update, and hang onto my annual upgrade for a Pre 2 or the next phone (not Pixie) from Palm.

I've had the palm pre since launch day and it has grown on me even more. I have some good programs, good multi media stuff including my itunes songs, and I am using it a lot to tether now.
If they get the app store a moving along a little more, and its gonna be great.
Couple small things like video camera, stuff like that would be handy but I really have enjoyed the phone.

    Re: Motorola Droid on Verizon

Just got back from the Verizon store.

Played with the Droid for awhile...

Definitely took a little while to get used to it. The keyboard is....eh. I could get used to it. Just like I assume people did with the Pre.

I HATE to say this...because I hate iphans...but overall, things just aren't as responsive as the iPhone. Web looks good...but not as snappy as iPhone. AND NO HAVE PINCH TO ZOOM IS A HUGGGGGGGGGGGE DISAPPOINTMENT. The zooming blows on Droid. There has to be an upgrade coming for that. People won't stand for that. Or at least I won't...

Notification panel is cool. Navigating around the device took some time to learn but so does anything.

I am so used to my Blackberry Curve. I have Messages as the left shortcut and Address Book as the right shortcut. If I get this Droid, it'll take a lot of getting used to not being able to quickly access my messages (texts + emails) and address book with a click of one button.

Overall though, I did like it, and just might get it. The Widgets are cool, the potential is off the charts, and it's a solidly built, decent looking smartphone.

I'm curious to hear others thoughts that have purchased one...most importantly I need to know...how will it hold up on a tailgate day!???

I would assume that if there isn't one of these Droids in my house by the end of the day, there will be one in residence by Sunday.
