Boise St. hires public relations firm to help with 2011 schedule

Boise State is trying to schedule a road game against a BCS opponentówith no home game in returnóin 2011 but hasn't been able to get any takers.
Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson told the Idaho Statesman he figures as many as 10 schools have turned down requests to play the Broncos. Benson said ESPN has been trying to help Boise State shop for a game.
"They're running into a situation where nobody will schedule them, nobody will take them," Benson told the newspaper.
Benson also said the WAC has hired an Idaho public relations firm to do some research and arrange media interviews to help push Boise State's BCS case this season. The WAC hired a public-relations firm to push for Hawaii's inclusion in 2007, he said.
"We're trying to establish a message," Benson said.

    We should play them.

I would love it if ISU played them, just not in 2010 or 2011. Have enough on our plate already.

If nobody will take a game with them without even asking for a return game then they deserve to go to the BCS no matter who they play.

It's the big boys that are being the pansies and ducking these teams, not the other way around.

    A. How do you know who the "ten schools" are,

    and

    B. I'm pretty sure that 2011 schedules have been set for several years.

Look at it this way--if we played them, who would we "defer" from the current 2011 schedule?

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

Re: Boise St. hires public relations firm to help with 2011 schedule

That is weak. They can't even get BCS schools to play them on the road now? Sad.

I'm sure they are looking for more of a high profile school to play (Oregon, this year), but if I were Iowa State, I would give them a call and say we'll play. Thats a game that is almost assured to be on some sort of national TV. Maybe a thursday game on ESPN or something. A chance for Iowa State to be on a stage and knock off a good "brand name" team.

Re: Boise St. hires public relations firm to help with 2011 schedule

I would think their biggest problem here would be the short notice they are trying to schedule this game. I mean, look at our schedule even, we've got nonconference games scheduled all the way to 2020 (and our first year with an open nonconference slot is 2018). This seems more like a BS reason to make a BCS case than a case of teams just refusing to play them because of who they are.

Would you call Oregon a patsy BCS school? BSU has a pattern of scheduling well regarded schools in the past and has a good track record against them on the field as well.....I think its obvious why teams don't want to play them--they don't want the loss on their pre-conference schedule to a WAC school. I think Cybsbll is dead on here.

Honestly, if they would just join the Mountain west, I could see that conference as good enough to join the BCS...Problem solved

Re: Boise St. hires public relations firm to help with 2011 schedule

If they will play a road game with no return home game just to face a BCS school we should jump at that. A one game series with Boise State at home is way better than playing home & away series against MAC teams.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

It would be a guaranteed national TV game.

Re: Boise St. hires public relations firm to help with 2011 schedule

I wish they would do something about college football scheduling in general. Allowing 1-AA wins to count every year and 6-6 teams getting in, and expanding to that 12th game to allow teams to schedule 4 patsies to get into a bowl. It is all a joke. I would rather go back to an 11 game schedule personally. The SEC seems to be the worst about this too. Many times it is 4 home games against patsies basically assuring a bowl.

You really think it's that simple? You think they want to be in the WAC?

Boise State is stuck in the WAC because no higher profile conference will take them. Even the Mountain West won't take them because they don't want to have to split bowl and TV revenue with another school. Boise State would kill to be in the Mountain West, but the only way the MWC will take them is if it guarantees them an automatic bid to a BCS bowl every year. Unfortunately for both parties, it probably wouldn't.
