    Re: Harddrive upgrade ?

    Shouldn't.
Is this the only drive in the system? Are you planning on re-installing everything from scratch, or migrating?

    Re: Harddrive upgrade ?

How old is the computer? Just make sure its not running PATA and its running SATA I/II. I don't think they make hard drives that large for PATA.....

Ah I remember my freshman year of college. I ordered an 850mb hard drive and thought to myself "there is no way I can fill this thing up" 2 mos later......

    Re: Harddrive upgrade ?

Tough call, but I'm willing to bet its SATA.

PATA style cable is on the left, and the SATA style cable is on the right. Have you looked to see which style connects to the hard drive?

It's a ***** to fill a TB. I have 200+ DVDs and all my music backed up on mine and streaming to my computers and PS3 and it's still not full.

    Re: Harddrive upgrade ?

...and you could have a different style power cord too, molex or sata. If you have a SATA hard drive, then it has the flatter SATA power cord, but if its PATA then it will have the bigger Molex style power cord.

Sata on left, Molex on right

Along with what others said. You must not be downloading blu ray rips. I have filled my 2 tb in about 6 months.

    Re: Harddrive upgrade ?

The software that comes with these upgrades is pretty good. I usually just plug it into an open sata port, boot the PC, windows recognizes it, and then run the software. I just upgraded from a 250 to 1gb last month. After upgrading I left the old hard drive connected and now use it for Acronis backups.

    Re: Harddrive upgrade ?

While it is not a bad idea to reinstall everything every so often I would leave your 160 gb drive in there for your applications and OS and use the new drive for data storage.
