4 cowboy fans traveling to Ames for the game Saturday

Will be parking the motorhome at the Vet-Med lot of Friday evening. Are there any good watering holes and good eats within walking distance? I am old but 3 are 20 something and will be looking for some nightlife after the game. Any help would be appreciated.
I have been told that the campus in Ames is second to none beauty wise and I am looking forward to seeing it.

BTW We loved your victory over the corn-holes!

Not much around vet med except Dublin Bay or Old chicago on Duff Avenue and South 16th......
For night life after the game Welch Avenue is Campus Bars... but Main street has alot of good bars also. But those two places would be a hefty walk from vet med

A visit to Ames isn't complete without a visit to the Tip Top Lounge. It's a hike on foot, but not unreasonable. Your nearest options would be Old Chicago, or Dublin Bay.

    The Fox is a riot.

I'm just not sure it's in the same league with the Tip Top on gameday.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

Nothing within walking distance really from Vet Med.

For the night life for the 20 somethings, they'll want to head into Campustown (Welch Ave). Probably a good 30 min walk from your RV.

I wouldn't say it is your typical BBQ. They have very very good smoked meat at a very very reasonable price. You can get a lot of food for not a lot of money there and it is quality. It will be packed and you will have to wait. It doesn't matter what time it is. If you go, get the BBQ Dinner with Chicken.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

Maxim magazine said Hickory Park's BBQ sandwich "The Saucy Southerner" is the best BBQ sandwich on earth (August 2009 Maxim Food Awards). I'd like to know if southerners agree.

Of all the things on the menu there, they would have to pick a sandwich made with left over meat all mixed together and doused with bbq sauce cooked long enough to become bitter.

Sounds like Maxim knows a lot about BBQ.

Walking on water is easy. Just do it in December when it's frozen.
