    Ames residents, you vote today?

Put my vote in. Hopefully the "no growth" city council members get voted out today.

Re: Ames residents, you vote today?

I'm going after work. The poll on the Ames Trib site has Orazem winning by a landslide and Wacha winning. Davis and Doll are close. Of course, that's just an internet poll.

Orazem and Davis for me. Absentee is the only way to vote

Yeah if Orazem, Wacha, & Davis could win in I think that would be a good improvement.

Re: Ames residents, you vote today?

Yep, I voted. At 12:30pm, I was only the second already-registered voter in 4-5 (Union Drive residence halls) but they said they'd had a decent amount of same-day registrations already.

Orazem FTW. That was the only race I could vote for, other than a hearty "HELL NO" to the first library ordinance and a "yes" to the second one.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Re: Ames residents, you vote today?

I'm not sold on Davis at all. I actually think Ryan Doll has done a good job, and has not been as anti-growth as some people seem to label him. I voted for Doll and Orazem.

If I could have, I would have voted for Wacha. Nothing would make me happier than to see Dan Rice get blown out in this election!

I loved Ames for 20 years but couldn't stand the folks that wanted Ames to stay a small town.......too many missed opportunities already! For example, think of all the money Ames loses when its residents go to Des Moines to shop

Just curious, why did you vote "hell no" on the first measure? You do relize that currently they are 6 year terms, and they were only looking to lessen the length of the term.

From the Ames Library Boards website...“When a board member ... leaves office, the Mayor makes an appointment to complete that unexpired term. Some appointments have resulted in people serving as little as one year, but under current rules, they can’t be reappointed. By limiting a term to three years and allowing a second consecutive term, a board member may be able to fulfill a six year commitment, or allow the Mayor to fill an unexpired term with eligibility for a second term. This puts the library in line with other city boards and commissions.”

Not even Des Moines, necessarily. I know people that will go to Ankeny because of store variety.

And then there's the excess money lost when people from north of Ames drive right on by on THEIR way to Ankeny/DSM/WDM.

If these "pro-growthers" win does that mean I might finally be able to buy quality NFL, MLB and NHL merch in Ames with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit local schools?

Re: Ames residents, you vote today?

Voted. #10 in my precinct at 7:10 this morning. Was hoping for a single digit voter number but just missed.

Was curious as to why the 2nd measure re: library board duties required a public vote. Seems like that is something that could have been taken care of by the board or city council. Although if the latter, it would have taken about 6 years and a dozen study committees!

It really doesnt help that the downtown stores close up before everyone gets off work. Not much down there any way. Build us a huge mega shopping center and get it over, bring on the tax dollars.
