I don't think has been posted, and I was curious about which bowl was going to be #8 after dropping the Independence.

Color me unimpressed to drop the Gator/Sun Bowl and the Indy Bowl against the SEC to pick up a ridiculous Yankee Stadium bowl and yet another bowl in Texas. The Big 12 doesn't have a single bowl game in the State of Florida after this year. We should have moved to make the Gator a permanent Big 12 bowl instead if we were going to drop the Independence.

Why would the Dallas bowl be played in the Cotton Bowl and not in Cowboy's Stadium? I thought Jerry Jones would pimp the hell out of that place at any chance. Maybe the Big 12 tried but couldn't secure the date or whatever. Seems like a wasted opportunity.

Here the article for the Big 12 website.

Big 12 Announces Additional Bowl Agreements - Big 12 Conference - Official Athletic Site

Love how we now have 2 bowl games being played on baseball fields!

This is a MAJOR downgrade for the Big 12. Could they get any more State of Texas biased?

why would jerry jones "pimp" out a 100K+ capacity facility for a 2nd rate bowl game that might draw 50k, or possibly less depending on the matchup?

Well, the Cotton Bowl holds 92K+ and it is being used as the site for a second rate bowl game. I thought there might be more interest in a new facility than one that was built in 1930.

Most bowls struggle to turn a profit. If you change facilities, I highly doubt that a few extra ticket sales would come close to covering the additional cost of renting the new stadium. Just the cost of firing up the new scoreboard makes it impossible to justify using the new facility. It was designed to cater to the high rollers and corporate money paying seat licenses and sitting in luxury boxes. You don't get this for the level of teams that the Cotton Bowl matches up.

So 2 bowl games in baseball fields, and also two that are in cold climates... not to mention the lack of a game in Florida. I guess we figure that we need to have a terrible bowl lineup to go along with our awful TV contract. Seriously, we are typically one of the top two football conferences in the country, we can do better than this.

Total agreement here. Keep the Independence, and the Gator would be great. It just means ISU needs to start winning consistently to get up to the Alamo and above.

Part of the appeal of the bowl season for me is the histories of some of the games. We are losing more of that too.

Re: Big 12 Bowl Games Finalized 2010-2013

So what sounds better to you guys?
    THIS: 2009
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and/or BCS National Championship Game
    Cotton
    Holiday
Gator (when it selects a Big 12 team)
    Alamo
Sun (when the Gator does not take a Big 12 team)
    Insight
    Independence
    Texas

    OR THIS: 2010
    1. Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and/or BCS National Championship Game
    2. AT&T Cotton (SEC)
    3. Valero Alamo (Pac-10)
    4. Insight (Big Ten)
    5. Pacific Life Holiday (Pac-10)
    6. Texas (Big Ten)
    7. New York Yankees (Big East)
    8. Dallas Football Classic/Eagle Bank (Big Ten/ACC)

What I don't like about the new setup is that I really wanted to go to the Alamo bowl. That got moved up the food chain. BUT what I do like is when you are talking about the history of ISU football, you almost have to look at the bottom 4 games in your conference lineup. The Holiday is now in our reach, but is harder to get to travel wise.

Re: Big 12 Bowl Games Finalized 2010-2013

I'm not sure if the name a bowl means much anymore. What means more is what each bowl pays out in money. The more money a bowl pays out, the better it is in reality.

The new lineup is better for the top 4 bowl teams. The old lineup was better for the bottom 4 bowl teams. The Holiday Bowl is a better destination that the Alamo Bowl, but sending Big 12 teams to Washington DC and New York City in December is a terrible decision -- big big downgrade in the bottom bowl berths. Although I guess it won't affect Texas & Oklahoma, so that makes it okay.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

The Cotton Bowl is being moved to Cowboys Stadium after this year. Hence the reason for a new bowl game played in the Cotton Bowl

Don't confuse hope for a plan.
